Article source: Studio 804 Inc. 1200 Pennsylvania utilizes the lot-and-a-half size by creating a courtyard and extruding two forms east and west to maximize the home’s southern exposure utilizing passive solar design. This layout incorporates a courtyard overlooking a bioswale. Every room within the house has views that focus on these two elements.
The interior of 1200 Pennsylvania will bring the outside in. This is accomplished with large windows on the South and North sides of the living room. These windows not only provide views out to the courtyard and 12th street respectively, but also allow cross ventilation through the space. The concrete floor is used to promote passive solar design with its thermal mass. Because the house is the environs of a listed property, the design for the house is dictated largely by conforming to its architecture. An example of this is the barn door hardware and the window proportions. Contact Studio 804 Inc.
