Article source: MOHAMED KEILANI ARCHITECTS The apartment, part of a nineteenth century building situated in the Roman neighborhood of Monteverde, is articulated by the presence of a sculptural volume functioning like a filter, staircase and container. Exploiting the skylight, a vertical connection was made with the rooftop using a wireframe stairway, created by design and with the additional task of connecting the living room with the kitchen, filtering the two areas with a glass sliding door.
The whole house, made with a unique yet contradictory simplicity, is not afraid of overlays. Indeed, a classic mood accentuated by the wooden windows frames and the cobalt blue paint used in the living-room can be noted next to an industrial use of materials like: resin, steel, the visible bricks typical of the region’s homes and the classic cementine with arabesque motif. Furthermore, the chromatic contrast creates new and interesting balances, like the one between the hand-planed walnut parquet with the aged but full of warmth effect and the cold blue wall painting or the one between the natural steel and the visible bricks. The metric passages are always marked by formal or functional scans. To complete the project design furniture by Vitra, Finn Juhl of lak00labdanish couch and industrial accents from the Oh My Lab Showroom were used. Contact MOHAMED KEILANI ARCHITECTS
