Article source: TANK BV Vondelgym focuses on hybridism. They offer classes that combine high-intensity training with Pilates and yoga and believe that large open spaces allow participants to ‘feel the energy of the other classes. Fitness is part of a lifestyle. It’s about being critical of yourself and your environment. Clients put extra care and effort into their health and appearance and equally expect a cared-for interior design in the spaces they frequent.
Having a transparent layout was essential to the concept of this 1100 m2 space so noise management was necessary. A search for more acoustic materials that also fit the design was one of the key challenges. Fitness becoming increasingly part of a persons lifestyle and identity, it was crucial for the Vondelgym to become a social hub. The second test was to create a design that prolongs dwell time and enhances the community feel. Vondelgym features a selection of natural contemporary and nostalgic materials, blending a warm and clubby atmosphere with a loft-like industrial urban feel, bypassing the hi-tech severity of traditional gyms. TANK, specialized in hospitality design, added an oversized bar to its contemporary interpretation of an old-school boxing gym and managed to transform a space into a social hub and created movement of likeminded people.
