Children’s Hospital – The Sieff Hospital in Israel by Weinstein & Adia ArchitectsJuly 12th, 2018 by Sumit Singhal
Article source: Weinstein & Adia Architects The site of the Sieff Hospital, amidst the majestic Galilee landscape, presents an unparalleled opportunity for incorporating Nature herself into the fabric of the building. The additions to the hospital include a Children’s Hospital, a psychiatric ward and clinic, and a geriatric wing.
The integration of the natural landscape into the buildings was of utmost importance to us, as we perceived the location of the hospital as having unique therapeutic qualities that only contact with nature can give. The project was shaped by two primary aims: clarity and simplicity, and quality of environment. A building that is easy to understand conveys calm and peacefulness. The wings are arranged in a logical sequence along the main circulation route to create a clear and simple hierarchy for the users. The simple organization of the building and its relationship with the landscape creates a coherent and harmonious environment for the patients and staff. The variety of views and their relationship to the various activities of the hospital offer therapeutic benefits and a working environment filled with natural light and a sense of space. The public spaces of the building are oriented outwards, opening onto a large, communal garden surrounded by views of mountains, cliffs and valleys, while the patients’ rooms open inwards onto peaceful, internal landscaped courts, affording privacy and relaxation.
