Cafe with Books HoCoTo in Kobe, Japan by tai_tai STUDIO

This cafe is located in Higashinada_ku, Kobe City, Japan.

It seems that it used to be a candle shop in the past.

It remained vacant for several years after this store withdrew.

The former director of the library and the young lady of a bread milling company had found the place.

Naturally, they were thinking of making coffee, books and toast into a coffee shop.

Installation

We felt that the interior of this shop was very fine, so we felt it wasteful to remove all(but there shuld have been several places to disassemble).

This project started with an image like installing a book cafe application at this shop that was used for merchandising So I did not ask workers in the construction industry.

I asked the team of artists to install, rather than construction.

-Dimensions and layout (interval) of bookshelf, chair and table.
-Arrangement, illuminance and color of lighting.
-Design of bookshelves.
-Design of table. /Filling of edges.
-Speaker position, sounding sound.
-Ceiling and floor colors.
-Design of the signs and logo.
-How to connect the kitchen that remodeled the warehouse, and seats.

-Security refurbishment to keep the shutter open
-Embed the showcase or homemade stained glass on the outer wall.(Set the lamp inside.)
-The character of \”KAFFE\” made by bending the water distribution pipe of the kitchen.
-Coffee beans, flour and butter selected over time.
-About 700 books . (1000 books will be collected)
-Hand-drip coffee and toast.
-Dishes such as coffee cup, and so on.

When these (as above) individual non-continuous arrangements can be organically related to each other, I thought that it would start as a book cafe.
