Article source: C.F. MØLLER ARCHITECTS and MT Højgaard In cooperation with the City of Aarhus, DSB, MT Højgaard and CF Møller Architects are preparing the realization of the vision Banquarter. A new, car-free city in Aarhus, which develops the area and connects the surrounding neighborhoods with a cover of the railway bridge from Bruuns Bridge to Frederiks Bro. A completely new, car-free city in Aarhus will be created. The railroad tracks, which extend from Bruun Bridge to Frederiks Bro, must be covered. The area will house 110,000 m² of construction, which will establish a new, central urban environment in Aarhus C, leaning on the curry structure in nearby Frederiksbjerg, which gives a special opportunity to connect the city center in a new and exciting way. “At this moment, there is a historic opportunity to realize the vision of connecting the center of Aarhus even better and starting a unique district that will complete the urban development that Aarhus is undergoing,” says Michael Kruse, partner and architect at CF Møller Architects, about the project . “With the Banquarter, we want to create a visionary urban renewal that realizes a sustainable, green, vibrant and car-free neighborhood with a vibrant retail environment and a diverse housing environment. Here we will create attractive and unique urban spaces with international format, say Michael Kruse.
Thoughts from the last century A cover of the railway line in Aarhus has been discussed all the way back to before, the area took its present form in 1924. Now, the opportunity to realize the mind is more current than ever because Bandeanmark is busy electrifying much of it Danish rail network – including the area at Aarhus Central Station. The electrification means, among other things, that the tracks at Aarhus Central Station should be lowered, thus creating a very special opportunity to utilize the project to cover the railway line at the same time as avoiding significant additional costs. The railways are currently facing a sharp urban division of several central parts of Aarhus. With the Banquarter, a hinge is established in the city, which has a great potential for the city center, where new synergies and urban connections can be established. Car-free fitting with neighborhoods The new building will be predominantly established as karrébuildings, adapted to the current local community for up to six floors. Three to four places will build the building periodically higher in the weather. Both bridges to Bruun Bridge and Frederiksbro will be established by transitions that will be urban spaces, which include shops and green spaces. As part of the sustainable strategy for the Banqueting, bicycle parking and taxi flow will be integrated into the overall plan of the project. The Kantzones, together with the urban areas of the Bankkvarter, will be cultivated and upgraded to create attractive urban spaces associated with and establishing a transition to the other city center of Aarhus against Bruun Bridge, Frederiksbro, Hallsti, Kriegersvej and Orla Lehmanns All. “With the cover of the railway line, Halssti and Kriegersvej will get a huge boost and go from being connections on the back of the city to being active and living with townhouses and city life,” explains Michael Kruse. The project involves the establishment of a parking deck over the track train, carried by columns. It is on its parking deck that a new district can be established in the center of Aarhus. It is DSB Ejendomme, which is behind the Banquarter. DSB Ejendomme has entered into an agreement with MT Højgaard on the realization of the project, and MT Højgaard has, in cooperation with CF Møller Architects, prepared the proposal to establish a cover for the railways that can be realized both technically and economically. The development of the Banquarter is still on the drawing board. Aarhus Municipality, which owns parts of the potential building rights in the project, must now relate to the proposal from DSB, MT Højgaard and CF Møller Architects. Category: Urban Design |
