Article source: YUDIN Design In the center of Kyiv, on Bolshaya Vasilkovskaya street, there is an inspiring coffee bar ONE LOVE espresso bar, the interior and history of which was created by the studio YUDIN Design. Designers Vladimir and Aleksandr Yudin created the name and other elements of the identity of this institution. A simple but ingenious logo pushes to a creative thinking. Performed in the style of a light stamp, it consists of the defining word ONE and the word LOVE, which is represented by a kind of puzzle. The letters O and V are composed of graphic “coffee beans,” while V is distinctly reminiscent of the heart. It’s all LOVE! The location of the bar is symbolic. It is a sort of balance of the material and spiritual values of the modern man: in the heart of the capital, under the wings of the Toronto business center, overlooking the church of St. Nicholas. Is it possible to think about the eternal here without stopping for it from the ground or from a cup of strong espresso?
Exterior and interior interact with each other: the concrete facade is literally surrounded by panoramic windows through which a warm interior is visible, made of caressing natural materials. The place is divided into a summer terrace and an inner room. The main task of Yudin brothers was to create an interior that could stimulate any visitor to thoughts about something that inspires and remind: creativity is the soul’s need. That’s why YUDIN Design chose the Scandinavian style which gives coziness, enjoyment of functionality and simplicity and does not distract from accents. To better understand the soul of the institution it is necessary to pay attention to its zoning. For technical reasons the studio YUDIN Design ordered the tables inside the bar in long rows. There are two options to sit with a cup of coffee and a glass of wine: low sofas with comfortable pillows or tables with high bar stools. Near each place a socket is displayed. The entire perimeter of the bar is furnished with shelves that, like all other furniture, have been designed and realized by YUDIN Product, the workshop of YUDIN Design. The owner of the place, Vladimir Zadirak, took direct creative participation in the interior, but did not interfere in the work of designers. He filled the shelves with books on art from the famous publishing house Taschen, and also brought chessboards for the bar. Everywhere seems to be an abstract painting, the author of which is also the owner. On the illuminated wooden panels you can find phrases reflecting the main life priorities of the owner of the bar: FAMILY TREE, HUMANISM, FEELING OF UNITY, ENJOY POWER OF NOW, NEVER STOP EXPLORING, EVOLUTION – in which everyone will find at least a few of their own. Other details were performed by Aleksandr and Vladimir Yudin in their workshop YUDIN Product: fixtures, doors, door handles and even plinths! All furniture made by Yudin brothers for the coffee bar has zigzag lines and looks harmoniously on the appearance of the Burgundy walls, as well as textile coverings and pillows of muted colors. The ceilings of this establishment are decorated with a wooden lamella, lacquered boards and trellised metal chandeliers created in the studio YUDIN Product. Also a massive board with a carved logo is surrounded by a bar area. Wall tiles in the bar area were chosen from the assortment of the famous Spanish factory Ape Ceramics. In the daytime, natural light penetrating through large panoramic windows fills the hall with a soft warm light. In the evening, in the bar, where, by the way, there is also a good wine list, it’s possible to find a relevant scarlet glow which is due to the lighting and the overall color scheme of the situation. The union of coffee, wine and art is completed by the piano, the keys of which are always waiting for guests ready to play. One of the subtle hints that makes ONE LOVE espresso bar a professional place is the glossy red coffee machine La Marzocco. True coffee masters will recognize in it the instrument on which the barista prepares coffee during international championships. This model is collected manually in Florence. Every detail of the interior in this cafè is chosen for connoisseurs: books, photos, painting, decor, and even coffee itself. To make things look even more cozy, flowerpots with live flowers are placed everywhere. The summer terrace looks very minimalistic, but attractive to visitors. It is not guarded by any cordons, but it’s just a free area near the bar, on which the original designer chairs and tables from YUDIN Product are placed. Interesting is the fact that the guests of ONE LOVE espresso bar and many magazines have characterized chairs according to the design of Yudin brothers as “photogenic”. And indeed – their design absolutely solved the whole issue with the zoning and design of the summer area. According to the designers, even the bar staff took part in the finishing of the cafè: they helped in tasks about the milled plywood, varnished furniture, twisted bulbs, etc. From the beginning of the work, ONE LOVE espresso bar has become a place where everything is done with heart and soul. Therefore, the name of the interior and even the service of this coffee house evoke the brightest feelings and thoughts. Contact YUDIN Design
