Extension of a single-family house in Bestensee, Germany by JAN RÖSLER ARCHITEKTENNovember 9th, 2018 by Sumit Singhal
Article source: JAN RÖSLER ARCHITEKTEN The aim of the project was to expand an existing building by three sleeping rooms, a bathroom and an undefined space that could be used freely by the children. The direct access to the garden from the main building, as well as an existing tree should be maintained, leaving just a small space to locate the extension.
The development of the new building was given a livable character to impel the children to use this space as their playground. One of the main design aspects is the square-shaped opening at the head of the corridor, framing the view on the spacious property and connecting the interior in a strong gesture to the large garden. The visible ceiling beams with their constant rhythm create a calm and cozy atmosphere inside, creating a combination of homeliness and modernity. The extension is a timber frame construction, covered by plain wooden slats contrasting with the existing building. Apart from the design part, Jan Rösler Architekten was also responsible for the construction of the project, giving them a great control over details and quality. Contact JAN RÖSLER ARCHITEKTEN
