Article source: Anime a Sud Casa Sabir is a refined early 1900’s apartment that opens out on to the historic market of the fascinating island of Ortigia, the ancient heart of Siracusa, Southern Sicily, where Greek settlers from Corinth arrived in 734 BC. Made famous by the genius of Archimedes, the city still bears the architectural and cultural stratifications of the peoples who inhabited it and is a maze of streets where the yellow sandstone eaten by time and salt suddenly stops in intense glimpses of blue.  Image Courtesy © Anime a Sud In the interior of Casa Sabir, the charm of the original features – dating back to the beginning of the 20th century – such as the old floor tiles, the decorated plaster of the walls and the high vaulted ceilings throughout, combines with the contemporary style evoked by designer lighting, micro cement finishes and handcrafted bespoke furniture which create a sophisticated and peaceful harmony. At the entrance, characterized by the minimalist touch of the polished concrete floor, there is a living area and an eye-catching wine cellar with ancient maiolica floor. In this area of the house light enters in abundance through the large windows with balconies and enhances the ancient decorated walls rediscovered under the most recent plasters, in gray, pink, red and blue tones that recall the lively chromaticism of the market. The master bedroom is characterized by its decorated vaulted ceiling, the “pece” black stone floor sink with a brass ceiling-mounted tap, the en-suite bathroom and the central king-size bed with sea view. The balconies of Casa Sabir, facing the the Ionian Sea, are a privileged viewpoint to capture the lively atmosphere created by the calls of the vendors of fresh fish and vegetables and to immerse yourself in the aromas of spices, giving you the unforgettable experience of an authentic and intense Sicily.
