Article source: atelier XS The building is located in an industrial district in Gonzaga, south of Mantua (Italy). It has been projected for a family company that has been crafting completely made in Italy fine knitwear products for 50 years. The firm was looking for a wider production site and, at the meantime, for a new public image, coherent to their quality manufacture. The plan is structured in two different parts: a wide and uninterrupted area, site of the production, defined by the shape of the prefabricated concrete elements of the roof and by the zenithal light coming from the sheds; a second portion that hosts the office segment and faces the entrance road through the wide openings.
The facades are marked out by the strength and the pureness of the concrete, which dominates both the vertical and the horizontal surfaces. The material and the prefabricated cement panels underline the industrial nature of the building, but at the meantime they conceptualize and ennoble the volume, giving the object dignity and personality. The concrete is contrasted by the varnished window frames, casings and brise soleil, which colour is reproposed also by the natural elements contained in the flowerbed ahead of the entrance facade. The interior image has been structured in order to give a coherent, conceptual, sober but comfortable idea, where the dialog takes place between the homogeneous surfaces of the concrete flooring and the white color of walls and furniture. The entry, in particular, is marked by a skylight that underlines the actions of going in and waiting, and by a glass that frames the meeting/show room, theatre of collection exposition and official events.
