The Clichy-Montfermeil station and its protrusion are located on the Main Square of the Urban Renewal Plan being carried out in the urban community since 2004.

The idea was to work on the symbolism of an urban meeting place, a space where cultural diversity could be expressed and exchanges between cultures could take place. The work on the public space and the interior of the station seeks to bring the specificity of the neighbourhood and the imaginary of the Grand Paris metropolis together.

The inspiration for the colourful petals with organic geometric shapes is drawn from the Bois de Bondy park and the market that is held twice a week on the square with its colourful fabrics on display.

The protrusion of the station is covered by a roof which is more than just a simple cover for the station as it becomes an urban pergola. It is an urban reference point and the symbolic link between the market and the transport infrastructure.

The agency

Since 2011, Anna Maria Bordas and Miquel Peiro have been developing a sensitive and flexible architecture based on functionality and use. Each building created by the agency is the result of a thorough process that explores a wide range of options. They consider the world of possibilities so as to draw out the right solution, one that best reconciles the contradictions specific to each programme. Is it possible to make a South facing opening work with photovoltaic solar power production ? Can the building blend into its surroundings while being an industrial scale construction ? The form is not a point of departure but a way of putting under tension the possible projected futures.

The creative method developed by Anna Maria Bordas and Miquel Peiro ties in perfectly with an important aspect of any contemporary project which is best summarised by the buddhist teaching: « nothing is permanent except change ».

Their ability to analyse and the creative intelligence of their team aim to serve projects that are constantly evolving. From the sketches to completion, whether an opening has to be made smaller or a programme doubles its surface area, or even if the production process of an industrial building is carried out the other way round and, therefore, disrupting the organisation of the plans. For Anna Maria Bordas and Miquel Peiro, the architect must know how to help the project evolve in a changing context without casting its uniqueness aside. Their competence in both engineering and architecture give the agency full control of the creation as well as an appreciation of balance.

In their projects, the architecture does not oppress the structure nor does the structure impose on the architecture. The structure serves the project ; it is a factor among others, an element that can be at times expressive, at others discreet. It better finds its place when it is accurately calculated, in harmony with the architectural intentions and balanced out with other factors.

The goal put forward by the bordas+peiro agency is, first and foremost, an architecture that improves the lives of its users. Through sight, light, touch and the choice of materials, the building must appeal to the senses of the users, try to raise their awareness and rebuild bridges between the micro universe of work, commuting and housing with the city and its landscape. Opening up to the outside world, making the environment comprehensible; this is the excessive yet simple ambition that the bordas+peiro agency wants to bring to each of its projects.
