“Each process of change means an emergence, a development and a becoming and this is only imaginable in time” – Carl Menger.
The “Explanada Reform” arose from the need to adapt space and interior design to the changes experienced between differing generations, evolving and creating, bringing about as a result a new home.
All this led Pablo Muñoz Payá Architects to reorganise and carry out an integral reform of this home located in Petrer (Alicante), which has a surface area of 85m2.
The initial distribution, which was much divided, is transformed into one that is simplified, with the idea of connecting the rooms in order to obtain visually more spacious areas, integrating the position of the wet zones which cannot be modified. In this way, a new vision of space is achieved, opening the way to new approaches to living.
Joining the living room and kitchen creates an area where the main characteristic is Spaciousness. The furnishing, made to measure, frames the rooms perimetrically and there is only a closing of sliding glass to separate the two spaces, which at the same time allows a visual connection between the two.
The main bedroom is a clear example of the new perception that is sought for in these spaces, since through comfort, design and functionality, a combination has been created where the wet zones do not make up a separate space, but rather they have been integrated into the design of the room, with the shower located behind the bedstead.
The desired peaceful aesthetics are achieved through the use of few materials which are integrated throughout the whole home. The main unifying element is created by the wood flooring which runs through the rooms, including the wet zones. The oak hue of the flooring together with the covering used, transmit the main characteristic sought after in a home, warmth. Combined with the pure white a bi-chrome ambience is created which, enhanced by indirect lighting, makes the perfect combination to produce a way to feel the space.
The “Explanada Reform” conveys the idea that everything is in continual change, generations do not pass just from parents to their children, but also from past homes to new ones.
