Reconstruction of an attic flat

Layout – The attic flat of 217 square metres underwent a total change of its layout. The main intervention consisted in an opening of the back part of the flat during which six chimneys had been deliberately revealed to become a dominant feature of this flat. The central area is a dining room, a living room with a “relax zone” and a kitchen with a cooking island. Moreover, the flat has a terrace, three bedrooms, two bathrooms and two separate toilets. Thanks to a raised study room, the view to the Old Town and the Prague Castle is not obstructed.

Concept / Colours / Materials The colour design of the flat works with neutral tones of various intensity, starting from white on the walls via a spectrum of grey on the furniture and fabrics to black which optically works well with the suspended ceiling in the hallway. A counterpoint is brass metallic elements used, for example, in the kitchen and on the chimneys.  An alternative element of the structure is oak wood. We developed its character in the dining zone, by means of a mosaic. In bathrooms we used ceramic tiles imitating stone. Door linings in the entire flat are profiled, as it is typical of interior doors in rather old Prague flats.

Kitchen and dining room Incorporating the kitchen into the open roof frame resulted in a geometrically balanced composition which is not only aesthetic, but also practical thanks to the natural light coming from attic windows. Kitchen cabinets of dark veneer contrasts with brass elements, such as fittings and the side worktop. The cooking island is equipped with a ceramic worktop for easy maintenance and offers at least four seating places. The prominent brass chimneys form a semi-circle, optically dividing the living and the dining zones. The dining zone located in the middle of the room can host six people. An interesting feature is a detail of the floor the classical parallel laying of which turns into a mosaic.  Design lights copying the semi-circles were provided by Bulb.

Living room – It offers a large sofa. On the opposite side, we see veneer furniture, with storage space. A relax zone with a rocking chair and a reading lamp has been created behind the sofa. To use the slanting room efficiently, a bookcase and stairs were made to measure. This is how a small study room in a nook over the stairs was created, overlooking the Old Town.

Bedrooms & bathrooms The main bedroom is entered through a modest walk-in wardrobe and a luxurious brass door. The bedroom includes a spacious bathroom with an independent bathtub and washbasins. Design circular lighting made by Bulb resembles a moon in the sky represented by wallpaper behind the bed. A mirror wall optically enlarges the whole bathroom, adding desired intimacy to it. The adjacent walk-in wardrobe offers a sufficiency of storage space with illuminated shelves. A private toilet belonging to the bedroom uses brass accents which fit in with the whole flat concept.

Accessories – The interior accessories used within this interior are from the assortment of our showroom LOOOOX.
