Article source: Zaigas Gailes Birojs Rumene manor is marked in Livonia maps since the 14thcentury. The present Neo-Gothic manor house was built at the end of the 19th century by architect T. Seyler. At the stage of initiating the renovation project, the building was not recognized as a monument of architecture and therefore that allowed a more flexible way of treating architectural heritage from the point of view of needs of contemporary way of living.
Within the renovation process, a basement was built under the manor house and an additional floor was added on top of it. The low west extension of the building was replaced with a new kitchen block with glass covered herb garden above it. On the lake side the Neo-Renaissance staircases and terraces were renovated. The lake was drained and reconstructed, the park was regenerated. The entrance portal, pergola, bridge and heart-shaped island were renovated according to old photos. Image of the interior reflects faded memories of the feeling that once ruled this quiet rural place. The interior is designed as one unified space filled with natural light. Furnishings and collection of objects have been carefully selected to delicately combine articles of different periods of time and styles. Everything in the house is as if covered with a light patina and the built-in furniture and objects are natural and hand-made. The Manor house renovation project was awarded as the best project of 2008 by the Latvian Association of Architects in the category “Best Rebuilding Project”. Contact Zaigas Gailes Birojs
