 Image Courtesy © Damir Baric Houses design, in the form of the concept of two twisted volumes, reflects these two premises. Both houses together with their design and geometry strive in the direction of attractive views, and at the same time the shape of their volumes form large shaded outdoor spaces which are directly connected with swimming pools. This outdoor space is the ‘heart’ of the house, and good shading enables its use during most of the day. The design respects the natural configuration of the terrain and strives to fit well into the environment. The contact elements of the building and the environment are made of local stone cladding.  Image Courtesy © Damir Baric  Image Courtesy © Damir Baric The structure design solves earthquake criteria in Dalmatia which is a seismically high demanding area. The façade design features teak-colored slats, which are inspired with the wooden ship details seen on the horizon, while reducing the intensity of solar insolation on the south and west facade that are most exposed to its influence. By using the same materials in the interior and exterior, the boundary between those two spaces was minimized, thus creating the experience of a larger house than it is. The interior space is devoid of unnecessary details while emphasizing the orientation towards attractive views.  Image Courtesy © Damir Baric  Image Courtesy © Damir Baric In addition to the ground floor where the living room, kitchen and dining room are, the houses contain basement with garage and pool service room, as well as the first floor where four bedrooms with ‘en suite’ bathrooms. The visual identity of the garden is based on a combination of crushed stone and grass surface to fit in with the surrounding landscape. All plants are native Mediterranean. In the end, the idea of these houses is to create unique interior and exterior space for enjoyment and ‘meditation’ in the Mediterranean landscape and views, devoid of all the unnecessary elements and decors that would distract that idea.
