Suzhou Qufang Commercial Street in Jiangsu, China by Dushe Architectural Design Co.,LtdJanuary 9th, 2021 by Sumit Singhal
Article source: Dushe Architectural Design Co.,Ltd “Qufang Street” means Suzhou as the thoroughfare of Jiuzhou. The project is located at the exit of Suzhou east railway station, close to the greening axis of the square in front of the station. You can see a corner of the neighborhood when you leave the station. Adjacent to the super large-scale central park in the south, the green Suma future city (the domain name of the whole area) is implanted with a non-local scene experience business form integrating Jiangnan garden and Jiangnan ancient town style, creating a unique cultural landscape and simple commercial atmosphere, making it a gateway landmark of Suzhou east high speed railway.
The overall length of the block is 350 meters, which is divided into East and West sections. Three access points are set up with the road to make it easy for people to enter the block. The width of the block is 70 meters. After studying the profile of the traditional Jiangnan block, we put forward the profile pattern of “single row shop + Main Street + courtyard shop + Water Street + waterway”, which can better solve the relationship between the spatial scale and commercial demand and maximize the business interface. It ensures the logic of the active line of Commerce, and adds a secondary line along the water, thus activating the vitality of bilateral commerce. The width of the main street is controlled at 8-10 meters, and the street height is 8-9 meters on two floors, basically maintaining the traditional street space ratio of 1:1. Two main streets, Water Street and Land Street, are constructed with wide and narrow alleys and squares to make them rich and interesting. Various cross-sectional patterns such as”courtyard Street courtyard corridor “,” street square courtyard Street corridor “,” street courtyard Street corridor” are created. The facade materials mainly include traditional small green tiles, green bricks, wood, green stone slabs, etc. within the controllable range of the owner’s cost, the traditional local style and features can be restored as original as possible. After trying many ways, the white old coating of horse head wall was finally achieved with acrylic pigment roller coating, and the effect was good. Starting from the demand of “the original flavor” to reproduce “Jiangnan Water Town”, it seems that the garden is integrated into the commercial street as a landscape element, which seems to occupy an inch of land and an inch of money in the commercial bottom area. However, the “building density” has been fully used in the actual design, and the space of the garden is originally green or square land. Key parts and conventional parts of the treatment to ensure the “clock in point” effect, taking into account the economy of the project. Considering the external corner, the central garden and the elevation along the road will have panoramic view, while the inner street facade and inner courtyard are more close-up perspective, which is easy to be robbed by business scenery, so there are differences in design strategies. In the design, special elevation and shape are selected at the corner position, such as adding arc-shaped corner building and Xieshan shape monomer, and considering the relationship between scenery and landscape shaping; in the water street area near the urban interface, more complex corridor levels are designed, and the sequence of bridges is increased. |
