Article source: B-architecten, B-bis & B-city Turnova is a vibrant new neighbourhood near the Grote Markt in the middle of Turnhout. B-architecten designed six of the buildings, including Kavel 4. Kavel 4 and the strip together form the entrance to the Turnova shopping area along the Otterstraat. The plinth consists of commercial spaces and provides access to the underground bicycle shed of Turnova. In the cantilever beam, there are three social two-bedroom apartments.
The displacement of the apartments in relation to the shops provides shelter to shop visitors at the front and makes way for terraces at the rear. The building is designed as a sculpture: all facades and the exterior ceiling were covered with the same material. The windows are square and black with a white frame. Their size reveals the function of the spaces behind it: the largest windows are for the shops, the large ones for the living rooms, the medium-sized ones for the bedrooms and the small ones for the bathrooms.
