Article source: Moederscheim Moonen Architects In the Netherlands, on the banks of the IJmeer and on the edge of the city Almere you’ll find Duin: a new residential, recreational and work area. It is made up of cozy single-family homes in the dunes, residential towers overlooking the lake and a lively center with a boulevard. One of the residential towers is Valencia, designed by Moederscheim Moonen Architects in collaboration with Klunder Architects.
Duin, the large development area in the coastal zone of Almere Poort, has been under construction by Amvest since 2013 and continues to grow. The new dune landscape consists of beaches, a forest and is filled with homes, restaurants, hotels, shops, care facilities, educational facilities, offices, wellness and leisure amenities. The residential tower, Valencia, has 58 apartments and is located on top of the Duinhal shopping center, which is currently under construction. The 15-story tower has four apartments per floor and two penthouses on the top floor. From the tower, residents can walk to the beach in a few minutes for a refreshing dip or can walk straight into the Duinhal for their groceries. The design of the building is distinguished by the horizontal lines that signify the different floors. From these horizontal bands, staggered balconies arise, giving the building a dynamic character. The staggered balconies allow for the maximum amount of daylight and privacy. The color and materiality of the design relate to the surrounding area and its atmosphere. The glass façade and the sleek soft brown cladding alternate between the white horizontal bands. The plating has a refined relief making the clean horizontal bands stand out even more, in this way the architecture remains sharp and powerful. A number of towers will be constructed around the building in the coming period and together they will form the unique new skyline of Almere Duin. Contact Moederscheim Moonen Architects
