3/9 Clothing Store is located in Binsheng Road, Binjiang No.1 Bridge District, Hangzhou, where we pass through every day when we go to work. After more than ten years’ development, this area has become a high-quality residential area. The earliest developed communities, such as Rainbow City, Guoxin Jiayuan, Nandu Riverside International, High-end Residence, etc., have formed the core of this bridge block, and all kinds of living facilities in the area are complete.

Design Strategy: Facade

Street shops in traditional blocks are always wrapped by door heads layer after layer, so we has innovated the design. We have removed all the convex door heads and wrapped finishes in the second decoration to restore the building to its original state. In addition, we retreated inside the gate to form a public space where we can stop and stay, which became a place for neighbors to exchange and rest. We have also lowered and reduced the door heads and signs, and embedded them in community streets in a low-key way. Our starting point is to make community cultural neighborhood exchanges return to people’s daily life, so that the community can operate and develop for a long time.

Design Strategy: Build a Set of Shelf System for Function 

At intervals of 1.2 meters, we built a column network system with regular rhythm to make it the main body of space. The column we built has a diameter of 45mm and a height of 3 meters. We use the movable and lightweight construction method to integrate the display of clothes store hangers, fitting rooms, flat exhibitions, mirrors, shoes and hats in the column net system. We try to fix the columns with the least number of support points, and achieve a set of shelf system by staggered horizontal and vertical heights, and these columns can continue to grow or be dismantled and reused. Height-adjustable hanging rods and horizontal structural members provide more possibilities for merchants to arrange their own displays in the future. The final result is that users can shuttle around in the column net shelves with regular sequence, snoop and find interesting moving lines.

The shelf system formed a set of stable structures by staggered horizontal and vertical heights, which showed the effect of vertical tubes echoing each other.

As a soft building, it can enclose the fitting room and put it into the shelf system, which forms the occlusion of the line of sight in the space.

Surprisingly, the rotatable fitting mirror changes its angle with people’s position to produce different space segments.
