Article source: STOPROCENT Architekci 1 LOCATION The FLAMINGO house was designed on a plot of land located near the historic centre of Żory- Silesian town in central Poland. On the eastern side, it borders on local street on the other side on city’s recreational and park areas. The plot has a unique shape of terrain. It’s highest part runs along the southern border of the plot and significantly descends to the north along the road and to the north-west, creating a depression there. The difference in height across the plot is approx. 5 m.
2 PLOT The building was located in the north-eastern part of the plot in such a way as to obtain as large a partition as possible on the south side of the house. It was planned on a cross of two axes. One of them was stretched parallel to the road and set in the upper part of the plot. The second axis is stretched parallel to the northern border of the plot and is embedded in the basin of the site. The building located in this way made it possible to isolate the interior from the public road and from the neighbouring terraced houses, and at the same time to fully open up to the southern exposure. This part of the plot seems to be the most attractive; with terrain climbing upwards, covered with natural vegetation; trees and shrubs. 3 ARCHITECTURE From street side, a rectangular, light volume of the building will be visible, constituting a barrier limiting the view into the space used by the household members. This part of the building was raised above the ground level and cut off the ground with a glazing stripe, which gives it lightness and the effect of a levitating object. The lower storey has been organized around an internal patio and overlooks the plot. 4 FUNCTIONAL PROGRAM The bedrooms and bathrooms are located in the upper volume of the house . These rooms have been arranged so as to provide users with attractive views of the park on the western part of the plot, while at the same time separating them with opaque walls from the public road. Only the study room, intended as a workplace, has a view of the entrance and entry entry area. The entrance itself and the location of the garage have been designed to take advantage of the natural terrain which slopes quite significantly to the north-west. Thanks to this, the gently shaped ramp can serve as an access and access to the building at the same time. There are daytime functions around the patio; spacious living room with dining area and open kitchen, home gym and spa area, entrance area and utility facilities. In the very center of the patio there will be a shallow decorative pool . A narrow stream of water flows from the pool along the entire southern facade and then cascades down into the garden in a small cascade. There, an underground hydraulic system equipped with filters is re-pumped into the pool and provides a unique microclimate in the interior. Thanks to the roofs designed over the terraces, the users can use the external part also in less favorable weather conditions and the most favorable viewing openings to the picturesque plot are provided.
