Article source: TAAD Studio Spanning an area of 2400sqft, this renovation project is nestled in a humble village located off the Arabian sea. The existing load-bearing walls of the Ground Floor have been upgraded to a G+1 model with 4 bedrooms, wherein the house is an amalgamation of local culture and modernism.
Owing to the hot and humid conditions, it was vital to design a climatic responsive building so as to decrease the indoor temperature by 3-5 °C, even during hot summers. This was achieved by active ventilation and passive cooling using a chimney which was introduced below the water tank to relieve the hot air trapped inside the building. Additional walls and jali screens insulate the indoor space from harsh sunlight. Furthermore, the fenestration in walls play with light and shadow in addition to providing privacy. Windows have been provided on opposite sides to ensure cross ventilation. Sun breakers have been used to provide diffused sunlight whereas bigger windows are provided towards the north side to bring in diffused light. Contact TAAD Studio
