Flexible facade house is a house combined with business function with unique architectural design and has many different features compared to typical city house architecture in urban Vietnam.

The most distinguishing feature of this house is the “double-skin” wave façade on the elevation: a wood-grained aluminum facade system with a unique shape-shifting ability.

Although the structure has only one ground floor and first floor, but a frame facade system with a height of more than 5 meter, the house has a synchronization with neighbor’s houses as well as creating a sense of tallness for the house itself.

The soft curving wooden facade system helps the house to create an impression and attract from afar, and suitable for the business function but at the same time still showing the privacy of the house.

About the technical details, the facade system is designed so that every louver can rotate around a 360-degree axis, which helps the owner to flexibly use the functions of the louver system for many different situations.

The house is located on a rather narrow road only about 6m wide, so the privacy requirement is quite high because the opposite city houses have a very close view. Behind the wooden facade system is the main bedroom, so when needed, it can be closed, creating a completely private space.

The house has a North-East direction so in the early morning, when the East sun penetrates the room, it can cause glare and affect sleep, so the owner can adjust the light penetration level of this facade system in a very active way.

At night, the sliding glass door inside could opened and before going to bed the owner can adjust the louver system to open so that the natural cool breeze can still enter the room without using the air conditioner and at the same time the facade system acts as a protection layer to ensure safety, anti-theft.

In addition, this wooden facade system also can reduce noise as well as limit dust from the street, creating a quiet place for rest and improving the quality of the indoor air environment.

This double-skin facade is especially adapted to the tropical climate in Southern Vietnam with rainy and sunny season. In the rainy season, high winds can cause splashes, the facade system can be completely closed to avoid rain and cold. In the dry season, the house can still “breathe” and be cooled by the flexible rotating wooden façade system to actively catch the natural wind. On days when the weather is too hot, the air conditioner can be used with a glass sliding door, then the space between the façade and the glass door will be a buffer zone limiting solar radiation infiltrates.

In terms of architectural aesthetics, this double-skin facade helps to give the house a flexible and attractive effect, creating an interesting highlight whenever there is an adjustment to change the rotation angle of the louver facade system.

The bedroom is designed to be simple and close, with a flexible wooden facade system to create privacy when needed.

The hanging shelf system instead of the railing and handrail of the stairs has both the function of keeping safe and used as a decorative partition and display of the owner’s collectibles.

The skylight area is also decorated to create accents with a 3D brick wall that has the effect of reducing noise (voice, rain, …) in the vertical direction.

The interior space is a contemporary style, mainly using elegant white colors, and some wooden accents furniture to help the house feel spacious but cozy.

The roof garden area is used to grow clean vegetables with wooden slats and large canopy trees to create shade and at the same time absorb heat without heating the bedroom downstairs. The wooden facade system in the elevation also acts as a safety railing and creates privacy for the terrace.
