Article source: Driss Kettani Villa Salam is projected on a north-south orientated plot, in a residential neighborhood in Casablanca. The house is attached to another one on the east side. The plot benefits from a sea view on the north side. The main concept is to have an open, transparent and fluid sense of the space, while maintaining the required privacy, in particular for the service spaces. Thus, the plan is organized around a kind of spine, patella which are the straight stairs.  Image Courtesy © Fernando Guerra
 Image Courtesy © Fernando Guerra ne can enter in front of these stairs, having on his right hand the open living area while having on his left a family room, a restroom and the kitchen. All the circulations happen around this architectural element, avoiding partitions and classical doors. The private and services spaces can be closed by large wood sliding doors if needed, while all the space is felt as boundaries-free when in open-position. On the upper floor, the master bedroom occupy the north and west side, benefiting from the sea view while the 2 bedrooms are fully sunny to the south, having a view also on the garden. The entrance is emphasized by a curved wall, covered in traditional Moroccan tiles “Zellige” with an olive leaf drawing, giving the name of the house: Villa Salam.  Image Courtesy © Fernando Guerra  Image Courtesy © Fernando Guerra The atmosphere relies on sober while warm materials such as a stone pavement on the floor, wood panels and large glass sliding doors with also a touch of blue and green color. The facades are simple and white, enhancing horizontal lines, in the spirit of the Casablanca architecture. Large panels of white lattice allow giving privacy to the dressing room, bathrooms and kitchen and adding a vibrant touch to the straight lines.
