Article source: LOKOMOTIV.archs Description Small building located in a natural basin, strongly conditioned by the geomorphology of the land. Its strong structural character articulates the demands of privacy and extroversion of the inhabitants at the same time and in a supportive way where necessary.
Initial situation In the small plot of irregular shape and with a strong central depression, the new building exploits the geomorphology in respect of the setback forced by the stream ducted along the road and in the intelligent use of the topography through a large basement, free plan connected with the road and a “night level” with a strong overhang towards the west that is totally hermetic and of structural preponderance on the whole. Initial draft Indulging in the client’s request for privacy and the creation of a large driveway, the main idea was to lighten the noble floor and armor the floor above, giving it a strong structural character and hanging the entire building from the main beam wall. Project The consequent triangular shape has allowed the optimization of the static system. The overhanging edge facilitates the contrast of the central forces. The blind wall placed as a wall beam bridges the two habitable floors and the semi-covered external surfaces. Realization The main orientation of the parcel is East – West with driveway accessibility along the last end, facilitated by the alignment at high altitude with the neighboring municipal road and the original geomorphology of the parcel. The triangular-shaped site borders to the south with a municipal road, to the east and west with other inhabited parcels, mainly covered with humus and a small building (rustic). The residence is located within a moderately sloping site with a marked decline towards the center “in the shape of a basin”, with no major topographical irregularities. Structured on three levels, the new building stands dominant and equidistant from the adjacent maps; of volume and shape consequent with the building availability, the aforementioned levels are crowned by a single-pitch roof without gutters along the entire perimeter. A small canopy next to the south facade and in keeping with the rest of the building in terms of material and color, will serve as an external shelter and outlet on summer days. From top to bottom, the sleeping area, the day area and lastly the service spaces and garage are organized through a single central vertical circulation axis that runs along the entire north facade. The technical roof, which can be reached via a small screened and isolated staircase, remains as available space. The service area (cellars, laundry, garage and technical room) totally underground act as a base integral with the main structure. Contact LOKOMOTIV.archs
