Article source: Doblado + Ferrari Arquitectos A temporary housing prototype has been proposed as an affordable, flexible emergency module for future reconstructions afterquakes. The design consists of a regular prism that condenses the program into two levels. The ground floor which includes the living room, kitchen, bathroom and the second floor the bedroom and work area. Architect: Juan Carlos Doblado + María Ferrari
The proposal is located along the central coastline of Peru, a strip of land and sand dunes facing the Pacific Ocean. The cold-water Humboldt current converts this remote landscape into desert, where there is no rainfall or extreme temperature. The site is located in a highly seismic area, where the tectonic plates collide at constant speed. In 2007, the preceding earthquake of 7.9 magnitude hit the city of Pisco, leaving thousands of victims and 90% of the city destroyed, whose reconstruction to date has not been finalized.
