Article source: Moemi Hatasaki The site gently slopes down to a residential area with a forest in the background. Although there are adjacent residential areas, you will be in deep woods and even have a chance to encounter antelope and raccoons as you walk toward the back of the house. Location: Akita, Japan
We designed a villa-like house for a couple at the foot of a nature park in Narayama, Akita. Even in Akita, where there is a strong disconnect between the outside and inside due to the harsh weather, our goal was to create a house that fosters a seamless connection for the clients to the rich nature in their daily lives. Each room was meticulously planned to complement the others, creating a seamless living experience. A flat floor was designed on a gently sloping slope, and we expanded living spaces in different directions and wrapped them with double-skin glass. These overlapping glass rooms connect the areas without hallways. The living room corner merges with the kitchen and dining room, transforming the space into a courtyard, or the gallery curving around transitions into a bathroom. Our idea was that “life” is not solely about activities in each room but rather moving through the spaces. The relationship between “landscape” and “life” is constantly changing, never converging.
