Preciousness and sophistication define the project to renovate the intimate area of a 1200m2 duplex apartment.
With a privileged location, the apartment, on the 34th floor, overlooks Ibirapuera Park. On the first visit to the property with the client, Diego Revollo was adamant that the apartment’s main attribute was the spectacular view of Ibirapuera and the São Paulo city skyline, and that this would be the starting point for the project.3
Closet – Door in Noce Wood with cut smoked glass details and crystal mirror, side shelves with thick worktops and drawers, in Noce Wood. The client had bought the apartment with a configuration that fell far short of the available area and the renovation initially needed to remedy all the distribution problems of the original floor plan. In the couple’s living area there was a large, disproportionate balcony that was totally underused. Revollo was categorical in suggesting that the couple’s new bedroom be built in the area of the old balcony, facing the privileged view of the park. The young clients were enthusiastic about the new suggestion and a major structural change was made to this area of the apartment.
To connect the social floor to the intimate floor, the social and service staircases were redesigned and, in the social area, the social staircase was designed as a sculpture in the middle of the double-height ceiling. Previously there was a staircase confined between walls and with the incorporation of the gallery and the demolition of the masonry, the new helical staircase became the highlight of the project.
Perfectly executed, the staircase’s curved metal structure was clad in natural high-gloss Macassar ebony wood with White Wood marble treads and mirrors. With its perfect proportions and exquisite execution, the staircase required extra effort from all the suppliers involved, both in planning the stages of all the services and in transporting and finalizing all the finishing details inside the duplex apartment.
In order to match the total dimensions of the apartment (1200m2 of floor space), extremely generous walk-in closets and individual bathrooms were designed for Mr. and Mrs. With the balcony incorporated into the couple’s intimate area, it corresponds to almost 200m2 and for this reason the new distribution allowed the functionality of the spaces to be so well balanced. In addition to the perfect sectorization, attention to the two unique points: the view and the height of the apartment have gained strength with the definitive project, taking advantage of all the existing potential and enhancing the value of the property.
It is impossible to enter the couple’s bedroom and not be struck by the large glazed area that overlooks the park and the city of São Paulo. Positioning the couple’s bed in the area corresponding to the former balcony made the suite unique, providing well-being and enchantment when getting up, going to sleep or simply enjoying the sunset. A system of perfectly sealed glass, blinds and motorized/automated curtains together with the air conditioning ensure total thermal and acoustic comfort for the couple. In the master suite, a niche in Macassar ebony wood “embraces” the headboard and the impeccable joinery work offers an eye-catching leaf design pattern.
In the mister ond miss’ closets, the lighting was guaranteed by a tensioned screen that simulates daylight and the choice of dark wood, mirrors and smoked glass creates an interesting and beautiful rhythm in the arrangement of doors and cabinet divisions.
For the Mr. and Mrs. bathrooms, the countertops present an interesting play of volumes that subvert the natural rule of countertops and cabinetry. In this project, two juxtaposed and fitted volumes have both worktop and storage functions merged into single volumes. There is no clear definition of the worktop and cabinet here, but rather a solution that prioritizes and enhances the materials without sacrificing functionality. Attention is drawn to the perfect execution of the joinery, part of which is clad in gray onyx stone. Also in the bathrooms, the highlight is the Mr. Bathroom, which was created entirely over the old balcony. This idea was only possible because the duplex provided full access to both floors, making it easier to relocate all the hydraulic infrastructure to the new bathroom.
In the daughters’ suites, based on the mother’s predilection for colorful rooms, each of the daughters chose a main color and the office tried to think about the composition of complementary colors so that the rooms would be interesting and extremely personalized. A true composition of colors and tones permeated every item in the suites, from the woodwork to the wallpaper and ending with the choice of fabrics, rugs and bedding.
It was stimulating for the office and for each of the daughters to go through the suggestion and choices of all the decoration and the result surprised everyone positively. The rooms are very playful and exquisite from an aesthetic point of view.
