10 LaSalle in Hong Kong, China by LWK + PARTNERS

Monday, February 22nd, 2021

Article source: LWK + PARTNERS

10 LaSalle rests on a corner site in Hong Kong’s covetable low-density neighbourhood of Ho Man Tin, which is traditionally best known for its concentration of top schools and well-established academic culture.

The slender 19-storey single block is situated in this tranquil pocket of the city amid a network of tree-lined streets which are not a common sight in highly dense Hong Kong. “At the site planning stage,” said LWK + PARTNERS Director HC Chan, “We took full advantage of such a pleasant environment with a building orientation that maximises the angle of view towards the famous Lion Rock and nearby cityscape, further facilitated by large glass windows letting in generous sunlight. The tower is also set back from the street to mitigate the blocking of views by nearby buildings, especially for lower units, while at the same time reducing any street canyon effects.”

Article source: KCAP Architects&Planners

The Gustav, a residential ensemble of two individual buildings with various housing types for young professionals and starters, is completed. The project, designed by KCAP in commission of Zuidschans CV, a collaboration between developers BPD and AM, focuses on the well-being of the residents. With high-quality outdoor spaces on different levels, the buildings are a much appreciated asset in Amsterdam’s Zuidas area.

The Gustav adds two new buildings to the Gershwin area in Amsterdam Zuidas. As the city’s financial district, Zuidas is home of the World Trade Center Amsterdam and the Dutch hub for many international businesses. Fitting to the young target group, dwellers at the beginning of their housing career, the buildings’ material range is light and modern. Both volumes are composed of continuous horizontal bands filled with structured brick panels in a warm white tone: an architectural solution that adds luminosity to the street.

Casa Celestina in Mindelo, Cabo Verde by Ramos Castellano arquitectos

Wednesday, February 10th, 2021

Article source: Ramos Castellano arquitectos

The city of Mindelo on the island of Sao Vicente, Capoverde, west Africa, is expanding rapidly, with 50% of the population under the age of 25, and with a constantly growing touristic flow.

The 60 sq m plot is located in the city’s center commercial street. A street that in the last 15 years has transformed its architecture, from residential, with traditional multi-colored one-storey houses, to small 4-storey apartment buildings, with the possibility of one meter overhang on the public road. How could we create an harmonious transition between the old existing, the new and the two existing buildings on the sides of the plot. Above all, as we could have conveyed through a 4-storey vertical facade, the same joy that was in traditional architecture, combining it with a new program.
