Living by the sea has been a habit experienced by generations of Brazilians. Overlooking miles of coast and seas of green has always seemed natural to life “on the shore”. What is not always obvious, however, is that each home built by the sea keeps its own characteristics and mood.
The Dr Lund Residential Building is located in Lagoa Santa, Minas Gerais, 40 km from Belo Horizonte. It is located on the corner between an avenue that is passage on the route between Belo Horizonte and the Serra do Cipó and a street that has only local traffic and is where you have your main access.
The building, constructed in concrete and masonry, was conceived as a horizontal object implanted longitudinally to the ground. It has seven floors and 95 meters in length. This strategy in the implantation and the horizontality of its form make its presence striking in the landscape.
This social housing building is built in a residential area in Rennes. Two out of six apartments, dedicated to more sensitive social tenants have individuals’ access, the four others have a common entrance. In order not to segregate the various social realities, we tried to unify the formal language of the 6 apartments.
At The Rheingold the streetscape is brought all the way up to the exterior and creates an inhabited facade on all four sides of the block. The building invites residents into an environment of accessibility and connectivity, one that celebrates user experience and champions shared perspective. Encapsulating one full block, this seven-story, mixed-use building contains inner and outer courtyards, and most notably an expansive and distinctive green rooftop. The sloping angles create a more organic terrain with longer sun exposure for the courtyards and allow for direct horizontal connections from the upper four floors. In this way, living space extends beyond each apartment’s four walls with ample outdoor space. Making full use of this often-neglected available space, the design was created with the goal of providing residents many of the urban elements that the area is currently lacking. Nestled in the center will be an interior courtyard that serves as a visual and physical connector, providing an additional 19,000 square feet of outdoor recreational space. On the roof, a 100’ truss bridges between the open courtyard, creating a view deck with incomparable views to Manhattan.

This nineteenth-century townhouse placed in Porto’s historical center was recently transformed by a real estate developer into a collective housing building with 8 apartments (studios, one and two-bedroom apartments). Having kept the existing central staircase and its lightwell, each apartment has one sole front, either facing the street or the backyard. The refurbishment project focuses on one of these apartments, located on the penultimate floor and facing South. Despite the narrow lot and irregular shape, we tried to re-organize the interior space taking advantage of it’s potential for a two-bedroom apartment.
Swahili Dreams is a luxurious, eco-friendly building fusing contemporary architecture and lifestyle, and Swahili tradition. Taking the scheme of condominiums, the project sits in the heart of the town of Lamu and consists of nine living units, each with one or two bedrooms. It adopts the old flavor of the Island, while being innovative in its all-modern facilities, and environmental design.
La Baranda, a housing development in El Sauzal, Tenerife, is located in a privileged landscape on the island’s north coast. Crowned by the imposing presence of Mount Teide, the coast rolls out and spills into the ocean. The plots feature slopes so pronounced that, in their awareness of a few deplorable examples, building regulations require a thoughtful volumetric adaptation.
Faced with these breath taking panoramic views and with the extreme topography, we set out to build a kind of abstraction, modifying the terrain through agricultural principles, terracing different levels with retaining walls, and “planting” the terraces with living spaces belowstrips of recovered landscape. A slight inclination of the upper covering stands as an urban façade finish and prevents the approach to the home from compromising the overall experience. Allone notices approaching the home in this manneris an area of woodland, a garden of local species that defines the unique location and seeks to alter it as little as possible or, at least, aspires to a respectful relationship with what was previously there.
Residence L-ga is located in the end of the business district of Hwamyeong-dong, which is downstream of Nakdonggang River – the main river for Busan and Kyungnam province. In spite of the great scenery of the river, the site was left undeveloped for over ten years. We created a yard, which would allow encountering nature and neighbors. It is materialized by composing a section to connote the whole. The unite has L-shape, composed with three rectangular shapes. The roof of the lower level becomes the yard for the upper level. Three sides of more is always exposed in air, and the shape of the whole is established by the stacked stair design. By its systematization, each unite forms and identical shape whether it’s located on the 10th floor or the 24th floor. The yard formed with the method is a place where one experience nature and self-fulfillment, and also a space of possibility which opens up communication with the neighbors. It has secured economic feasibility by maximizing space and minimizing the finishing material. The high sustainability of space maximizes variety and minimizes low sustainable finishing materials, creating a tangent between the business owner and the tenants.
The new high quality housing project in Askeveien will offer innovative apartments, sheltered in a green and lush surroundings in Skøyen, Oslo. The residential building will band together with the adjacent historical landscape and built environment in an attractive and humble manner. Through the conscious use of qualitative and locationoriented architecture, the project will reinforce and develop the inherent identity of the site.The pitched-roof housing complex consists of 15 apartments with generous openings and private balconies or terraces. The play of the roof geometry allows the penthouse apartments generous ceiling heights and sheltered roof terraces. Villa Ask is wrapped in hand-basin long-shaped tiles giving the project a unique language.
Elit Manzara Residence is located on an area of 13751 m2 in Beytepe neighborhood, which is developing as a residential area in the capital Ankara.
The project consists of two separate prisms which are connected to each other at the ground level, move vertically and horizontally. This formation of the masses is a result of the dwelling typologies that are developed in the design process.
Tower block offers houses with wide scenery of Ankara while the horizontal block suggests close relation to the nature with more green spaces. In order to increase the relationship of the horizontal block with nature, the parking lot is located at the basement floors. Thus created large usable green areas at different elevations.
