The project consisted of the remodel of an apartment located in a modern residential building inside the Diagonal Mar Park, a few meters from the beach.

The owners, a couple in love with Barcelona, wanted to refurbish this apartment to enjoy the proximity to the sea and the quietness of this part of the city. They wanted to convert their two bedroom apartment into a comfortable and functional one bedroom home while having the main areas connected and open to the terrace through a spectacular window with views to the park and the sea.

Ylab Arquitectos proposed a complete new layout, prioritizing the communal space formed by the kitchen and the living room, aligned with the master bedroom along one large window.

Young European Heritage – a Suburban Fairy Tale in Munich, Germany by pasel.kuenzel architects

Monday, September 23rd, 2019

Article source: pasel.kuenzel architects

The provision of housing supply is most likely the biggest challenges in our cities in the future. Thus, the housing estates of the 50s, 60s and 70s do not go unnoticed on the outskirts of the city. Where developers divide the original properties of the local individual development into small pieces with oversized buildings, the border between city and countryside blurs. What if we continue to condense the city and treat the country differently?

Situated on a fairy tale-like plot just outside of the City of Munich, HouseH is a suburban dream of the Sixties. While the luxury of this estate is the beautiful outside-space, our aim was it, to keep the additionally built volume as low as possible. The character of the main-house as a single storey building with a huge roof remains, even been completely reorganized and restructured. The sculptural aspect of the roof and the outside terraces’ is reinterpreted and strengthened by design surgeries as one of the key aspects of the sixties architecture.

To avoid additional volume, al additional functions are strategically situated in the old ensemble of outbuildings, as the guesthouse is located in the completely refurbished cabin from 1920.

The site is home to a heritage building which is architecturally significant at a state level. The building is a prime representative example in Victoria of the ‘Streamlined Moderne’ style, popular in the 1930s, having horizontal emphasis with accents of curves. Taking cues from this streamline modern period, our building grows from its heritage foundations into the future, embracing sustainable and technological architectural advancements in design.

Fuchsia house was designed for a recently retired couple with a large close knit extended family.

Located on the east coast of South Africa, on a modest lot within a gated golfing estate, this spacious home graciously asserts itself on the gently sloping square shaped site in a way that the allowable build area is maximized and all the specific living requirements are included.

Architecturally the home takes on a contemporary feel with simple forms and a palette of light materials.

The arrival point is a spacious double volume three sided courtyard area with access to 4 garages and guest parking.

The front entrance door directly off the courtyard opens onto a 180 degree unobstructed view over the swimming pool, towards the golf course fairway in the foreground and sporadic distant sea views.
