Four Oaks in Cuneo, Italy by BLAARCHITETTURA

Sunday, July 14th, 2019

Article source: BLAARCHITETTURA

The project consists in the renovation of a residential unit, part of a prestigious 19th century building. The area is located on the right side of the old town of Cuneo, enjoys a fantastic view over the surrounding the city, and over the mountainous arc of the Maritime Alps.

The surface of the entire unit is about 220 square meters. The rigid structure with load-bearing masonry in solid bricks, typical of those years noble palaces are difficult to modify, and often does not allow easy adaptations to contemporary living.

As solution, we used the concept of “decomposition” of the walls as a generative element.

Tresarca Residence in Las Vegas, Nevada by assemblageSTUDIO

Sunday, July 14th, 2019

Article source: assemblageSTUDIO

Nevada is a state of two worlds, one of glitz and glamour on the Las Vegas Strip which seeks to transplant imagery from around the globe to mesmerize the minds of 40 million tourists, and the other a rural lifestyle. The latter develops its architecture from local materials, whose vernacular represents function over form.

The Mojave landscape maintains an inherent beauty of textures, stratifications, and materials, as well as a protected oasis of color brought to life under the play of shadow patterns of a harsh sun. These environmental realities can be used as inspiration for design to create a sense of place and character regionalism.
Tresarca has been developed around a simple expression of forms and materials. Separated into functions, the forms create opportunities for protected courtyards, cross circulation within all the spaces and the penetration of indirect natural light. Glamour and glitz have been substituted with purpose.
The materials develop a layering of mass as you move from the basement to the private realm. Each layer is representational of the stratification of the nearby Red Rock Mountains. Change of materials provides the variety of textures associated with the rock formations. Crevices between the masses form an oasis where landscape and water cool the space. The mesh screen provides both a protection from the harsh sun on the interior spaces and a play of shadows among the forms.

Dating back from the 1930’s, this beautiful parisian building near the Parc Monceau features large canopies and brick details, contouring charming artists workshops.

This challenging apartment deserved a new project, to reclaim its many assets and imagine a functional living space : in fact, the floor surface was rather small compared to the generous volume.

The new design focuses on light and geometry, complementing beautiful original features with sharp, contemporary lines.

Sustainability

Exceptional air-tightness and above-code insulation keeps this house warm in the winter and cool in the summer. The small windows on the north facade maintain privacy and minimize heat-loss, while the south facade is almost entirely glass designed to passively heat the home in the winter. A passive ventilation strategy cools the home in the summer. Durable and recyclable exterior cladding ensures this home will last with minimal maintenance and have a small environmental impact.

This resort‐inspired home in Bali’s iconic surf destination, Uluwatu, puts a contemporary spin on local materiality and vernacular architecture to create a luxurious modern holiday home deeply attuned to its beautiful surroundings.

This getaway home designed by SAOTA in Uluwatu, on the south‐western tip of the Bukit Peninsula of Bali, Indonesia, is dramatically perched high on a limestone cliff edge. Ulu means “land’s end” and watu means “rock”, which aptly describes the rugged beauty of wild, arid peninsula. SHUM YIP UpperHills LOFT in Shenzhen, China by URBANUS

Tuesday, July 9th, 2019

Article source: URBANUS

This base is a high-end commercial complex with 6 high-rise towers containing offices, hotels and business apartments. Adjacent to the CBD district, it is also located between two central parks in Shenzhen. URBANUS’ design task was to construct a 100,000 m2 loft of apartments and offices on top of a shopping center larger than 60,000 m2.

To release the enormous pressure from the vertical dimension of the high-rise tower, we take advantage of the large area of the LOFTs, creating two artificial mountain volumes, in response to the huge scale of the towers. At the same time, the design connects the project to the natural form of the surrounding Lianhua and Bijia Mountains. This design also encloses a quiet space, by connecting the 3-4 level high-density office LOFT through exquisite sidewalks, creating a small town with rich spatial variation. There are also some public spaces, such as the LOFT Theater and the Trading & Exhibition Center that gradually transform the “big” and “solid” periphery space to the “small” and “dynamic” inner region. The Loft Town has accommodated a shopping mall, business offices and apartments, creating a new model of settlement which integrates residents, offices, shopping malls and cultural spaces.

TLV House in Tel Aviv, Israel by Metropole Architects

Monday, July 8th, 2019

Article source: Metropole Architects

Metropole Architects have recently completed TLV House on the outskirts of Tel Aviv. The project represents the crowning achievement of a successful international collaboration between an Israeli client and project manager, an Arab Israeli contractor, a Russian Israeli engineer and a South African architect.

Designed and developed by Metropole Architects in Durban, South Africa, the logistical challenge posed by international work was effectively managed by means of intermittent site visits, regular video conference calls, and a remotely controlled webcam mounted on site which provided a virtual 'man on the ground' and enabled the architects to monitor progress on site at all times from South africa. The further challenges presented by the language and contextual differences were overcome by the collective spirit of mutual respect, between the members of the project team, that developed naturally as the project progressed.

11 House in Brazil by CoDA Arquitetos

Monday, July 8th, 2019

Article source: CoDA Arquitetos

A white box floating on concrete base. This sentence summarizes the proposed volumetric composition for the Lago Norte house project.

The central idea of the project is to highlight the upper part of the lower part of the residence, like two independent universes. The ground floor, with a more open and integrated character, has a little delimitation between the rooms, only demarcated by differences in height, from the central hall of the room, up to the contiguous rooms, kitchen, barbecue, balcony. The upper floor is configured “as an apartment inside the house”, in the couple's own words. A space developed for rest where privacy and silence are valued.
