Philharmonic in Constanţa city, Romania by Archvision Studio

Thursday, March 28th, 2013

Article source: Archvision Studio

The project presents a philharmonic in Constanţa city, Romania. From a socio-demographic point of view, the city of Constanţa is the 3rd in the country as number of inhabitants and it is considered the city with the largest ethnic and cultural mix. The site proposed for our project is situated on the Eastern border of the Tăbăcăriei Lake, at the crossroads of two important areas of development: a touristic area and a local one, this being an important criterion in choosing the emplacement.

EL “B” in Cartagena, Spain by SelgasCano Arquitectos

Thursday, June 14th, 2012

Article source: SelgasCano Arquitectos

El “B” is this long construction, a body, that feeds on the heritage -the continuity- of a site’s treatment: THE Cartagena harbour, which is nothing but a harbour in Cartagena, borderline of the city from the sea. Everything here belongs to it, belongs to the port, any port we should say: the immaculate straightness of the pier edge (straight), the invariably calm sea (flat), the artificially horizontal plane of the dock (flat), the sky as the variable background for this plane (plane on a plane?), all based on an artifice to represent the simplest -and by virtue of its simplicity, the most natural, the most immensely artificial- plane that equates to the most natural.

Patronaat in Haarlem, the Netherlands by diederendirrix architects

Friday, April 13th, 2012

Article source: diederendirrix architects

Haarlem’s pop music venue consists of a foyer and a large auditorium stacked on top of a smaller one so that the program fits neatly into the designated space. An internal street for loading and unloading runs through the building and activity there is fully visible to visitors. This is appropriate for a cultural institution such as this where, other than in the theatre or concert hall, there is no strict separation between front and back stage. Here, a night out means more than just attending a concert and for this reason, emphasis is placed on the visual relationships and routes through the building.

Jøssing Fjord Center in Norway by CEBRA

Tuesday, April 10th, 2012

Article source: CEBRA

The Jøssing Fjord Center is a combined museum for mining and geology. If the outside exhibition areas are also taken into consideration, the area is really a small magma park. The museum building is set just outside Jøssing in beautiful natural surroundings, next to the former mines and the power station that produced electricity for the mining activities. The basic structure – a four-armed star plan – is cast in concrete around an intermediate massive core built from bales of straw.

Article source: Ramón Fernández-Alonso y Asociados

The project, called administratively “Rehabilitation of the Old School Square Minor of Archidona ” located between the Plaza Ochavada and the street San José combines two distinct types of intervention, consisting on one hand, in acting on the heritage building that gives face to the square consisting primarily of a conceptual re-definition of its functioning and enhancer of its structural features and, at the same time, the approach of a new building facing the street frontage of the Street San Jose with its own capacity and specificity.

Espai Ridaura in Girona, Spain by Capella Garcia Arquitectura (designed using ArchiCAD)

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012

Article source: Capella Garcia Arquitectura

This is a multipurpose facility in Santa Cristina d’Aro, Girona, in the district of Baix Empordà. Santa Cristina d’Aro is situated close to the coast, in the upper reach of the Vall d’Aro, and the river Ridaura flows through it close to the town centre. The municipality is growing as a result of the large amount of tourist activity during the summer months, which means that it already possesses considerable leisure and cultural facilities. Nonetheless, the facilities in Santa Cristina were very basic and quite a few years old, as well as being at some distance from the town centre. So much so that the concerts of the Santa Cristina International Chamber Music Festival took place in the parish church.

Plantahof Auditorium in Landquart, Switzerland by Valerio Olgiati

Tuesday, March 27th, 2012

Article source: Valerio Olgiati

The placement of the new auditorium creates a new central square within the overall structure of the Plantahof agriculture school. The high façade holds together the new piazza.

The inner space of the auditorium lies in half-light. Two windows facing each other define the inner space and allow for a view from the new piazza towards the axis of the Prättigau valley. A thin, dark coloured, concrete wall stretches over the pillars and beams like a tent. These elements are supported outside the building by the abutments. The structure combines in equal measure a frame and a solid construction. The result is a hybrid of pillars and walls, expressing an architectural concept and lending the building character.
