Cake and Breakfast Café in Saint Petersburg, Russia by Hotels Only

Sunday, June 9th, 2019

Article source: Hotels Only

Cake and breakfast is a breakfast cafe, located in the the 19th century building in the very center of St. Petersburg . Preserving the interior contrast was the main wish of the customers, so we combined cute details, pink color and brutality of concrete.

There is a bar counter for takeaway orders ont the 1st floor and two rooms for a pleasant breakfast on the 2nd floor.

We used concise surfaces: concrete, terrazzo, plaster, slatted texture. Details and furniture were made in local workshops: concrete hemispheres, triangular countertops using brass, mirrors with a white backing in the form of a bowl.

M50 Art Hotel in Chengdu, China by MUDA-Architects

Sunday, June 9th, 2019

Article source: MUDA-Architects

M50 Art Hotel Project is located in Pingle, Sichuan. Pingle Ancient Town is planned to be a music theme town. Therefore, the starting point of this project is around “Music”. In this project, MUDA- Architects strives to explore and activate local culture genes, and to create a landmark building that can inherit the historical context and also is forward-looking. It is an architecture which is able to talk to the future.

MUDA-Architects hopes to further explore the relationship between architecture and music in the design: tapping into the local history and culture, we learnt that the love story between Zhuo Wenjun and Sima Xiangru happened in Qionglai. Taking the song “Feng Qiu Huang” as the starting point, guqin was found, and the strings was extracted. The project abstracts the action of “touching the strings” into architectural form. When the strings solidify at the climax, the final form of the building is obtained, which also responds to the theme “Architecture is frozen music”.

Ramona in Amsterdam, The Netherlands by STUDIO MODIJEFSKY

Saturday, June 8th, 2019

Article source: STUDIO MODIJEFSKY

On the corner of a quiet canal street and De Clerqstraat in Amsterdam you can find the new girl in town: Ramona. This vibrant, authentic space designed by Studio Modijefsky is the refreshing latest addition to the Amsterdam West hospitality scene.

Imagine if a young, rebellious daughter of a traditional Belgian cafe owner was opening her own place- Ramona would be it. The interior references the tradition of classic bars with plenty of dark wood, stained glass, protective wall panelling, and mirror finishes; all reinvented with a much younger attitude.

This unusual combination results in a bohemian space, where bold details and unexpectedly layered materials create an eccentric vibe in its own right.

Article source: lagranja design

Lagranja Design and its second ¨The Populist¨ in Istanbul

Lagranja Design was commissioned to design the second ¨The Populist¨ restaurant, located in Bebek, a sophisticated neighborhood of Istanbul. In the meantime, the first ¨The Populist¨ became one of the most frequented leisure facilities of the Turkish Capital.

Two years ago, Lagranja design studio in Barcelona undertook an ambitious project in Istanbul. The challenge consisted in the conversion of Turkey’s first beer company into a modern brewery with an industrial overall look, inspired by the graphic language of the Prohibition period. The result was ¨The Populist¨, located in the Bomonti area, restaurant acclaimed by ¨Time Out¨ as the best place to be in Istanbul.

Lagranja Design now completed the second restaurant for the same brand. This time, the project of the second ¨The Populist¨ had some distinct spatial characteristics that demanded new ideas and solutions, therefore it could not just adapt to the design. The new ¨The Populist¨ is located in the former space of a garden villa, in Bebek, a wealthy neighborhood on the Bosphorus strait.

Made in China Cafe in Saint Petersburg, Russia by DA architecture bureau

Friday, May 31st, 2019

Article source: DA architecture bureau

Made in China is a modern Asian cafe in the center of St. Petersburg.

It is located in a historical building, many elements of which are protected by the state. This is why it was strictly forbidden to modify stucco molding, railings and stairs during the work on the project.

The main technique here was emphasizing the authenticity and historical heritage of the premises, turning it into a kind of shell for the elements placed inside.

High ceilings and the second tier also established some framework in respect of the freedom of planning decisions.

AC Hotel Portland in Oregon by SERA Architects, Inc.

Thursday, May 30th, 2019

Article source: SERA Architects, Inc.

The AC Hotel by Marriott in downtown Portland puts culture at the center of the guest experience—merging the European-inspired brand with local art and craft. Located at the busy corner of SW 3rd and SW Taylor Avenue, and adjacent to the Yamhill historic neighborhood, the hotel is one of the first AC-branded hotels in the United States. With 204 guest rooms, the new thirteen-story, 120,000-square-foot hotel serves as a dynamic addition to the city.

The hotel engages the city through its vibrant street-level design: lobby, restaurant, and bar are wrapped with windows as a visual marriage of inside and outside spaces to make guests feel a part of the city and vice versa. The design pays homage to its historic context while playing with its sense of materiality, eschewing the ubiquitous red brick of the district, instead using an off-white brick. Silver-toned metal spandrel panels are set against the strong vertical, brick frame, resulting in a building that emphasizes its stature with a flash of elan. The building’s prominent corner, where the two busy street facades meet, is clipped and appears to have an inset vertical ribbon of windows that run the full height of the building, providing each floor with a perch from which to view the activity of the city.
