A new promenade linking key areas of Hamburg – incorporating ‘purposeful erosion’ to create a meandering river promenade with open vistas – compressed and expanded at key moments, punctuated by cut-out access cones, amphitheatres and three contrived ‘rock formations’ on which restaurants, cafes and kiosks are placed.
Commissioned by the Province of Friesland, and in conjunction with Achterbosch Architecture under the combined name of OAK, Onix has developed a road bridge that connects 2 districts of Sneek on either side of the A7 motorway. The bridge was designed for a municipality that wished to establish a new city marker along the motorway.
Glass Bridge as Haizuka Earthworks Projects, 1997~2007
This project is located at Haizuka dam construction area and as one of Haizuka Earthworks Projects*. We are commissioned from Mirasaka town, Hiroshima prefecture, Japan to design guardrail and pavement for the newly large bridge over the dam lake in collaboration with local people. As a result, we put over 190 sheets of glass panel(300×1800mm) to the outside of guardrail. Furthermore, collaborating with Japanese artist, Hiroshi Fuji, we design the glass panel as an Encyclopedia of living things in haizuka dam area. Therefore, “Glass bridge” is a project as landscape design, as a small museum, as a communication art, and as an architecture.
The West Brabant Water Line is a defense-line consisting of a series of fortresses and cities with inundation areas in the south-west of the Netherlands. It dates from the 17th century but fell into disrepair in the 19th century. When the water line was finally restored, an access bridge across the the moat of one of the fortresses, Fort de Roovere, was needed. This fort now has a new, recreational function and lies on several routes for cycling and hiking.
Kurilpa Bridge, Australia, designed by Cox Architecture, has won the ‘World’s Best Transport Building’ award at the prestigious World Architecture Festival (WAF) Awards 2011. The presentation of the WAF Awards are taking place during the largest global celebration of architecture – the World Architecture Festival, which is being held at the Centre Convencions International Barcelona (CCIB) this week.

Project description: The presented object is may be the world–wide first fully glazed suspended bridge. The bridge takes the pedestrians, coming from the historical Otto Wagner metro station up along an escalator to a horizontal platform 8,5 meters over the most frequented boulevard in Vienna, the `Gürtel`. From there one can reach the cinema and shopping center “Lugner City”. Through series of interconnected buildings this multifunctional complex forms a strong pedestrian axis which reaches up to the nearby City Sport Hall and represents a much frequented urban connection. Being the first entering element of this axis the bridge plays the role of a landmark for that big complex. We decided to make it dynamic, light and attractive, like a funny flying object, which hovers over the pulsing city.

In the dreamed and romantic palace park, designed by the famous classicistic landscape architect Peter Joseph Lenné, the appearance of the eight small bridges with different lengths, from 2 to 10 meter, should be very discreet and in harmony with the historical environment. Nevertheless we choose glass as building material as indication for our time and a modern building technology. During the day the transparent glass bridges are disappearing in the environment through their mirroring and reflecting. In the night they become visible through the magic light that they radiate from bellow.

Thinking about a modular, quickly deploy- able and adaptable bridge design a quite complex shape based on parametric design strategies and digital fabrication methods was developed. We started to parametrize points in X, Y and Z direction at relevant areas of a bridge in Rhino Grasshopper. Four points at the beginning and the end of the bridge and four in the middle. These 12 parametrized points give the opportunity to steer the crosssection of the bridge at three important areas. Based on these points the defi nition creates three frames one for each end of the bridge and one in the middle.
SOLID architecture designed a bridge that is enclosed on all sides to connect the two buildings Rennweg 44 and 46 at the fifth upper floor, 17 metres above the Kleistgasse in the third district of Vienna. The bridge with a span length of 22 metres was completed in May 2009.
As part of a park competition in Kiev – Ukraine, Maxwan resolved a missing gap in the primary pedestrian path. The solution goes beyond merely creating a bridge. It strives to create a signature place, within the park. It avoids any of the assumed formal or structural gestures. By doing so, it creates an almost non-bridge.
