Tuesday, July 18th, 2017

Article source: SURCO Arquitectos

The opportunity to rebuild on the same site allowed that along with the building was proposed to reorder an establishment that grew up without an apparent programmatic order according to age; Thus focused on the new building the entire administrative and curriculum, previously scattered program at the College, in addition to rooms of attention of parents and the main entrance to the College, thus replacing a precarious access and a few classrooms, a place with a more public condition under the logic of the place where it is inserted.

Article source: CAZA

CAZA’s inaugural project in Colombia, La 100 is comprised of a cluster of high-end offices, hotels, and residential buildings in one of the city’s most densely populated areas. Each building is a unique color, playing off the long-held tradition of building with vibrantly pigmented bricks in Colombia. The backside of each building has a series of terraces that look out towards the Cerros mountain range. Throughout this expansive complex of mixed-use towers are a series of parks and public areas that unify the people and activities that occupy this fast-changing Bogota neighborhood.

Refurbishment of a country house in Barcelona, Spain by ARQUITECTURA-G

Sunday, April 16th, 2017

Article source: ARQUITECTURA-G

The land where we intervene is a flat and elongated plot of 7.000m2 in the outskirts of Santa Margarida de Montbui. The plot initially had a building for agricultural use in a state of ruin that we were asked to transform into a single-family housing. The building regulations, according to which the pre-existing construction was considered as a farmhouse despite of being just a hut with fibrocement rooftop, didn´t allow any modification in terms of volumetrics and façade openings.

Komatsu Seima Fabric Laboratory fa-bo in Nomi City, Ishikawa by Kengo Kuma & Associates

Friday, March 24th, 2017

Article source: Kengo Kuma & Associates

This is a renovation of an office building in rigid-frame RC structure to strengthen its quake resistance using carbon fiber, and transform the interior into a museum called Fab Labo, a space to display the technology of Komatsu Seiren, the client company. Drawing from a technique of braiding ropes in this region, it became possible to add further flexibility to the carbon fiber. The fiber rod is said to be seven times stronger than iron, and this is the very first time that this material was used as a means of reinforcement against earthquakes. The potential of this light and soft fiber is explored inside the building as well. There is a lighting duct in fiber and on the rooftop, an experimental greening is being conducted using porous ceramic panels (called Greenbiz), which was generated from the process of producing fiber.
