SÈMÈONE Center in Cotonou, Benin by COBLOC Architecture

Thursday, November 18th, 2021

Article source: COBLOC Architecture

The project entailed the restructuring and elevating of an existing unfinished structure into a largescale smart building. A new project, a new program, the building becomes SOMEONE, a formation center, and incubator for the sectors linked to innovation and design, led by the l’Agence de Développement de Sèmè City in Cotonou, Benin.

The constructive challenge of this project lay in delicately intervening in this build, which was largely unfinished for years, and that had to undergo major structural modifications. To ensure a subtle and cautious approach, a spirit of urban ecology and bioclimatic conception was adopted. In this specific case of a deteriorating building, set in an environment where technical means and materials were difficult to access, we proposed our concept and our innovations while always taking care to conserve and to reemploy the existing to the maximum. The structure is made of columns and beams with hollow floor slabs. The latter is stabilized by hollow chipboard. The whole is braced by the staircase ribs and concrete elevator shaft.

The Line in Amsterdam, Netherlands by orange architects

Wednesday, November 10th, 2021

Article source: orange architects

Like a moored cruise ship, The Line fronts onto the IJ waterway in the Overhoeks district of Amsterdam. Sitting on private verandas behind the refined grid that wraps the building like a veil, residents enjoy views of the water just in front of them and of the city centre. The verandas are real outdoor rooms, their ceiling design making them feel like an extension of the interior space.

Tenjin Business Center in Fukuoka, Japan by OMA

Saturday, October 30th, 2021

Article source: OMA

OMA’s only built project in Japan up until 2012 can be found in Fukuoka. The Nexus World Housing complex was completed more than twenty-five years ago. Local developer Fukuoka Jisho commissioned Arata Isozaki to develop a masterplan that introduces a “new urban lifestyle,” for which OMA was invited as one of six architects to design a freestanding housing block.

Fukuoka is the seventh biggest city in Japan, known for its distinct cultural identity. Its central location among major cities of East Asia positions the city as a gateway into Japan, contributing to its standing as the economic center of Kyushu Island. The city has been thriving over the last decade, ranking highly in livability, ratio of younger population, and percentage of start-ups.

Corvin Technology Park in Hungary by 3h architects

Saturday, October 30th, 2021

Article source: 3h architects

The location

The construction of the Corvin Promenade is Central Europe’s largest downtown urban renewal investment, an internationally recognized and award-winning development project. The real estate developmental concept slices out a specific area of the dilapidated building of the district and replaces it with a completely renewed city fabric, which houses commercial, residential, and office buildings. The Corvin Technology Park (C5) is located at the end of this stripe, thus it has a prominent role in closing the central promenade running through the area. Complementing the opposite building, the office building was placed perpendicular to the axis, creating more space between the buildings, while being a definite endpoint of the promenade.

Concrete Waves in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam by G8A Architecture & Urban Planning

Monday, October 18th, 2021

Article source: G8A Architecture & Urban Planning

Set within a tropical climate, the pre-cast façade manipulates the orientation of sun shading to craft the beautiful illusion that is Concreate Waves. Set to be completed in three phases, the project is part of a new industrial zone east of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Conceptually, the design direction continues on from the learnings of G8A’s earlier research and development centre projects exploring the “yard typology”, inspired by Vietnamese village spaces that are distributed around a central courtyard. This massing strategy enhances natural ventilation, offers clear access and circulation routes and proposes a welcoming community space for the users.

Headquarter of POHL in Roztoky, Czech Republic by Rusina Frei Architekti

Monday, October 11th, 2021

Article source: Rusina Frei Architekti

The family company POHL cz, a.s. is one of the most important Czech construction companies. Its new headquarters is conceived as the flagship of the company, combining the practical demands of administrative operations with the need for self-representation. The architecture of the building is influenced not only by its location in a suburban industrial area, but also by the company’s traditions and the construction sector in which it operates.

The vacant ground floor allows for permeability across the large site. The two floors above contain a mix of large and cellular offices. The strip windows, concrete frame and modular partition system here allow for a flexible floor plan. The top retreating floor with a continuous terrace is designed for management. The entire building is connected by a spiral staircase.

Neubau Wohnhaus F in Romanshorn, Switzerland by Tom Munz Architect

Wednesday, October 6th, 2021

Article source: Tom Munz Architect

Starting point

The building site is in Romanshorn, a town on the shores of Lake Constance with an important railway branch junction. The main body of the settlement is a densely built-up area, with three main arms. The railway station is at the centre. Further inland, workers’ housing districts were built according to plans. The historic castle and church district lies in a slightly elevated position on the banks of the lake and shapes the city’s skyline. The building site is situated in the outskirts of Romanshorn in the former hamlet of Holzenstein. The hamlet is characterised by the converted farmhouses and artisans’ houses that line the winding and slightly sloping street, dating back to the 18th/19th century. The building site, in the second row of the street, is situated in a historical townscape conservation area. To the west, it borders on the agricultural area, with an unhindered view of Lake Constance.

Towers in Siberia, Russia by Brusnika

Wednesday, October 6th, 2021

Article source: Brusnika

In 2014 the Ob riverside area in Novosibirsk was selected for redevelopment. According to the project, the existing industrial estate and fire station were to be replaced by several residential quarters. Brusnika is developing the European Riverfront, one of the plots along the Ob river.

The master plan of the quarter was designed by KCAP Architects & Planners. The European Riverfront is conceived as three clusters of blocks along the riverside and the inner street. The clusters are linked by public squares, each designed with a different character and dominated by a 25-storey landmark. Three towers Number 20, 24 and 28 are central elements to open public spaces in the housing estate composition, acting as navigation points for the pedestrian route along the river bank.
