The National Library of the Republic of Tatarstan in Russia by XOPA architecture bureau

Friday, August 13th, 2021

Article source: XOPA architecture bureau

The National Library of the Republic of Tatarstan is located in a building erected in 1987 for the Kazan branch of the Lenin Central Museum. The building, clad in Armenian tufa stone thus resembling the image of a waving Soviet flag, is one of the centerpieces of Kazan and a significant example of late Soviet architecture. After the collapse of the USSR, the National Cultural Center “Kazan” was located there, which also housed a Kazan City Museum until recently. The most notable achievement of the project, whilst being respectful to the material and spatial features of the original design, was to transform a somber and outdated structure into a vibrant and lively public space.

Thursday, August 12th, 2021

Article source: DDS+

This project is located alongside the West Ring Road of Brussels-Capital. It has a prime location due to its proximity to the Ring, thus illustrating the overall mobility policy of the Brussels-Capital Region. The new car park offers 1200 spaces for private cars, 150 spaces for motorcycles or shared cars and 270 bicycle spaces. It is a perfect fit with the overall vision of reducing congestion in the capital while creating a multimodal node, at the same time as increasing densification in these districts of Anderlecht by offering more sustainable mobility.

Mindet 6 in Aarhus, Denmark by C.F. Møller Architects

Thursday, August 12th, 2021

Article source: C.F. Møller Architects

At Mindet 6, close to the Port of Aarhus, a bright, sculptural tower and landmark will combine city life and cultural history with attractive new cultural and business facilities, together with public restaurants.

The starting point for the tower is an existing historical industrial complex, with its legacy of the port’s industry and culture in former times. The impressive building structure will be preserved and supplemented with a new tower. The tower will be integrated into the existing complex, from which its basic geometry will be derived. The historical qualities of the existing building will continue to be apparent, and will also gain new life from being opened up towards the surroundings, to create attractive outdoor and indoor relations. On the roof of the old building, a new, publicly-accessible green rooftop garden environment will be established, and will include a restaurant, orangery and kitchen gardens.

107 Forbes in West Annapolis, MD by GriD architects

Wednesday, August 11th, 2021

Article source: GriD architects

107 Forbes is a new single-tenant Core & Shell office building that sits veritably in pole position at the literal gateway to both the City’s historic core and the West Annapolis neighborhood it resides within. The new building replaces one of a series of small-scale commercial buildings which sit immediately along Rowe Boulevard. Following revisions to the zoning code, the strip of land they occupy has been rendered unbuildable due to a uniform setback applied along Rowe Boulevard which engulfs the entire depth of these sites. In order to build a new structure here the building had to fit essentially within the existing footprint and maintain similar bulk, height, and floor area.

Heyri, Chronotope Wall in Paju-si, South Korea by UNSANGDON Architects Cooperation

Friday, August 6th, 2021

Article source: UNSANGDON Architects Cooperation

The formation of a city in which various architectural types, materials, and forms are constructed is both a strength and a weakness of Heyri Village. It failed to create any order in the province and became a city freely composed of diversity. Instead of creating another complexity in a complex city, we tried to construct an architectural space through the wall, the most basic architectural vocabulary. The walls of the past are classical by structural limitations and have limitations that block spatial communication. By transforming these past walls, we try to create experiences and situations that have been changed by the chronotope setting.

Wuhan•SUNAC•1890 in China by Lacime Architects

Wednesday, August 4th, 2021

Article source: Lacime Architects

Wuhan Hanyang Iron Works was founded by Zhang Zhidong in 1890, being the first and largest iron and steel gathering place in China’s modern history. After the founding of People’s Republic of China, Hanyang Iron Works was rebuilt on the site of the original Hanyang Gunpowder Factory. Wuhan Hanyang Iron Works moved to another place in 2007. Today, the original Hanyang Iron Works site has ceased production activities, but in the factory area, the workshop buildings built in the 1950s and the remaining machines are in good condition. Different times have left indelible marks on the land of this factory area. Therefore, the protection and reuse of industrial sites in the factory area is an important practical carrier to show the national industry development and modern industrial culture elements of Wuhan city.

Torre 261 in Amarante, Portugal by Just an Architect

Thursday, July 29th, 2021

Article source: Just an Architect

Urbanistically, the plot meets two distinct scales. To the North, a scale of four and five storey buildings, to the South by the intersection of an access road to Rossio Park, after which the scale changes to a two-storey scale and single-family dwelling typology.

So that there are no flat and rigid gables and trying to relate to the various influences of the surroundings, we assume a rotation of the floors taking this displacement to four distinct elevations that cause particular movements and shadows.

New Shoots ECEC Greenhithe in Auckland, New Zealand by Copeland Associates Architects

Monday, July 26th, 2021

Article source: Copeland Associates Architects

Our client New Shoots saw an opportunity in a site which many others thought was unusable. Originally, the site was split into two areas by a stream and had become an abandoned and neglected wasteland that stored and collected motorway run-off. The site was overgrown and an eyesore in an otherwise attractive neighborhood.

Our brief was to rejuvenate the site by creating a nature-centric design that interweaves environment and classroom, while achieving the client’s programmatic requirements and integrating sustainable practices.
