The home of Alan Maskin, principal and owner of Olson Kundig, this project reflects Maskin’s longstanding interest in the various uses of history. The project includes an 1,100-square-foot renovation and building addition to the original 1930s cabin, interior design and landscape design, as well as an art and custom furniture collection. Maskin’s design intervention delineates the house’s two different eras: the 1930s and today.
Purunã Refuge is located in the Balsa Nova City at the foot of a geographical fault called Escarpa Denoviana. Its privileged view contemplates both the urban environment – cities of Campo Largo and Curitiba – as the nature of the Atlantic forest and Serra do Mar. The refuge is protected to the west by a native forest and opens to the east and north for a panoramic view of the Brazilian nature.
Swiss performance running brand, On, began as a skunkworks project in the Swiss Alps, an attempt to completely re-engineer the running shoe with newfound materials and a truly innovative design. In commemoration of these humble beginnings, the now globally-recognized brand went back to the source to debut its new Outdoor Collection with a zero-waste sustainable Mountain Hut.
SPINN Arkitekter (NO) and FORMAT Engineers (UK) have collaborated on the design and realisation of a stunning new mountain hiking cabin above the arctic circle.
In the summer of 2015 the Hammerfest chapter of The Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT) decided to build two simple warming huts to promote hiking in the mountains around town. The brief was simple – “we imagine a small hiking cabin with good windows that has a wood burning stove and simple benches, placed near the top of the mountain and designed such that it suits the terrain”.
This small cabin was designed to provide a retreat for relaxation and quiet contemplation of natural surroundings. It is located on a south-east facing slope overlooking the town of Taihape with its layers of hills beyond stretching to the Ruahine Ranges.
The site, previously a market garden, was discovered when on a road journey through the middle of North Island. Initially we camped on the site enjoying its beautiful views and constantly changing light and atmospheric conditions. The desire emerged for the retreat to be a studio for art practice and a base from which to explore the landscapes of the Rangitikei – Manawatu. The brief then extended to require accommodation for occasional gatherings of friends.
Entry is from a viewing platform facing north and east.
“I want this place to be my retreat, give me a bed and a bathtub and I’m happy”. This is the brief we had from our client from the project cabanas in Comporta, a small private residential project.
The initial project was just that, a 12 sqm bedroom hut with a bathtub, the “intimate module” as we like to call it. Gradually, as the conversations with the client started to develop, a new hut appeared on the project. The “social module”. Then another hut for safekeeping the clients’ car collection. The “service module”. With this organicity more huts started blossoming and at this point – why not a pool too?
H-eva is a space experience, opened to the landscape and aware of our daily needs. It is a micro-architecture that combines modern comfort and traditional materials. Prefabricated, transportable and autonomous to varying degrees. It draws from nature its elements, the sun, the water and the wood of which it is entirely constituted.
Horizon is the first pre-designed neighborhood to be built at 9,000 feet elevation on Powder Mountain, Utah. It consists of 30 cabins ranging in size from 1,000- 3,000 square feet, along with a series of strategically placed garages, and a communal lodge called the ‘Pioneer Cabin’ for the use of the homeowners. Buyers choose from four typologies, which either follow the contours like mountain goats, or are cross-grain, projecting off the mountainside like extreme skiers. The cabins are then customized for each owner. The theme and variation strategy, in combination with the dramatic topography, results in a neighborhood that has a powerful sense of both unity and variety. The first eight cabins are now complete, with subsequent units under construction.
KOTO [KO-TO] The traditional Finnish word for ‘cosy at home’ is made up of the design husband and wife design duo Johnathon Little and Zoe Little.
Having spent the past decade in Oslo where Johnathon previously worked for Snohetta, Johnathon and Zoe wanted to acknowledge, not only the enduring minimal aesthetics of Scandinavian design they became attached to but the Nordic lifestyle and the value of a healthy work-life balance.

Being part of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation expansion plans, the Fiocruz Ceara Campus is a key equipment of the Industrial and Technological Health Hub (ITHH), located on the municipality of Eusébio in the metropolitan region of Fortaleza.
The main objective of the Campus is to expand research laboratory areas related to the development and innovation of pharmaceuticals drugs, health equipment and materials, in addition to the development of scientific research directed to the environmental and epidemiological reality of the region and the dissemination of knowledge through post-graduate courses.
