Calgary-based Lemay + Toker, the product of a recent merger between architecture and interior design firm Toker + Associates and Montreal-based integrated services leader Lemay, has worked with community stakeholders and two valued clients to reinvent the historic Hudson Block in downtown Calgary as an inviting, community-oriented space showcasing local artists and the latest in retail design.
Foster + Partners has been appointed to design a new office tower as part of an urban precinct that is set to reinvigorate part of Sydney’s iconic Circular Quay. Located between George and Pitt streets – a stone’s throw away from the city’s famous harbour – the scheme is characterised by a network of pedestrian laneways that criss-cross the site at different levels. The laneways will be lined with shops, cafes and bars, celebrating Sydney as a unique destination.
BNIM led the initial Campus Master Plan and Conceptual Design process, which was complet-ed in April 2012, for the Pacific Center Campus Development. In August of that year, BNIM was again selected to lead the design of a two-building campus expansion. The two buildings add 410,000 square feet of office, dry laboratory, catering/café, health center, fitness center, lecture hall, multi-purpose learning and conference space to the campus. Both buildings have received LEED gold certification.
Fabryka Kavy (Coffee Factory in Ukrainian) is the first café with its own coffee roasting in town. It is situated in a building of the post-soviet period not far from the town lake and park. The café owners got premises with high ceilings and large windows which let in lots of light from the setting sun.
At the bottom of the building, a small commerce stands out of the complex and you just can’t lose it out of sight. It’s a space designed for an encounter lapse with the ambiance; by the morning, it´s the perfect spot for watching the neighborhood life. In the afternoon, it becomes a glass cabinet that illuminates the street and turns up in a lively mood with the clients that goes there.
\”Entourage\” means firstly socializing but also what we want to become and leave behind us into a big marriage with the future.
We must take socializing on different layers as a positive game, first with ourselves. It is a game that helps us not being subordinated to some dogmas, it is a game that should make us expect to learn continuously… Also that we are in a continuous workout in this construction site of our souls .
MAAT, the new Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology, is an outward-looking museum located on the banks of the Tagus in Belém, the district from where the Portuguese great explorers set off. Proposing a new relationship with the river and the wider world, the kunsthalle is a powerful yet sensitive and low-slung building that explores the convergence of contemporary art, architecture and technology.
The new building is the centrepiece of EDP Foundation’s masterplan for an art campus that includes the repurposed Central Tejo power station.
