Melon District in Sants-Montjuic, Barcelona By Gus Wustemann Architects

Tuesday, September 18th, 2012

Article source: Gus Wustemann Architects

“It is not a building but a district” District is the way a human being lives in urban context.

We choose of the shelf low cost industrial materials to create these urban spaces. There is no hierarchy within these surfaces that makes it urban and authentic. Therefore each surface transmits a feeling of purity and coexistence in relation with its  surrounding. The statics of Melon District are defined by the authenticity of the materials. There is no decoration.

Rose Library in Norman, Oklahoma by John Postic

Thursday, July 19th, 2012

Article source: John Postic

Libraries today serve as gathering places, community centers, and cafes. We need to stop viewing libraries as sacred temples of reading and research and more as a collective gathering place of people, ideas, events, and resources; a place that incites imagination and satisfies curiosity – a veritable flowering of culture. With a form that evokes the Oklahoma Rose, this library has a multi-layered skin that passively filters light, sound, and visitors to the library. These ‘petals’ diffuse the light entering the library, reducing solar heat gain and providing excellent reading light.

Ginza Steak TAJIMA in Tokyo, Japan by Doyle Collection

Monday, July 2nd, 2012

Article source: Doyle Collection

Shiny wooden paneled walls surround the interior along with the counter. These panels exude dignity and the texture create tension and high-quality mood. “Ginza Steak TAJIMA” made its grand opening at Ginza, Tokyo, one of the leading cities in Japan. Initially, our client’s needs were to create high quality and dignity interior using genuine materials. After having further hearing, we noticed that our client was always very familiar with stones. Firstly, we proposed the idea of using solid board panels instead of stones to constitute the walls. As for the base, we cut out big horse chestnut solid board panels into 13 mm thickness, commonly used for making counters with one piece. These specially-manufactured panels have different grain pattern expressions.

Graffiti Cafe in Varna, Bulgaria by Studio Mode

Friday, May 11th, 2012

Article source: Studio Mode

We built up the interior as natural continuation of the architecture. By functional design we separated the area into two zones: the front zone was incorporated into the exterior creating public space and feeling of console silhouette of the building; the rear zone was separated through floor and roof design that allowed reducing depth of space while keeping the panorama.

Thursday, March 22nd, 2012

Article source: Kengo Kuma & Associates

Location of this Starbucks is somehow characteristic, as it stands on the main approach to the Dazaifu Tenmangu, one of the most major shrines in Japan. Established in 919 A.D., the shrine has been worshiped as “the God for Examination,” and receives about 2 million visitors a year who wish their success. Along the main path to the shrine, there are traditional Japanese buildings in one or two stories. The project aimed to make a structure that harmonizes with such townscape, using a unique system of weaving thin woods diagonally.
