Monday, September 30th, 2019

Article source: BDR bureau

Turin-based architectural firm BDR bureau completes the transformation of the new Enrico Fermi School in Turin, the winning project of an international competition launched in 2016 by “Torino Fa Scuola”. The initiative, promoted by the Compagnia di San Paolo and the Fondazione Agnelli, in collaboration with the City of Turin and “Fondazione per la Scuola”, embodies a cultural, pedagogical and architectural reflection on the new learning spaces of the Italian school.

The existing school building, built in the 1960s in the Nizza Millefonti district between the former industrial area of the Lingotto and the Po river in the south-east area of Turin, has been extended and it is functionally rethought. The new educational needs – in which the school becomes an integral part of the community and merges with the urban fabric – represents the future of education and architecture for the Italian school.

Tuesday, July 9th, 2019

Article source: Phoenix Wharf

Somerset family farm enterprise, Yeo Valley, also Britain’s leading organic dairy brand, is expanding on the success of both its dairy product range and its Blagdon-based farm, café and garden in deepest Somerset by opening its very first London outlet, comprised of a two-storey café, shop and workspace on Queensway in west London, designed by award-winning South West creative agency Phoenix Wharf.

About Yeo Valley

The Yeo Valley business has been developed over two generations. From the acquisition of its first Blagdon farm in 1961 to becoming a successful organic dairy producer with a British Friesian herd, adding beef cattle, sheep and a second farm along the way, Yeo Valley went on to work with other co-operative farmers and fruit-growers and is now Britain’s leading organic dairy brand, as well as a thriving local centre of activity. Offering hospitality in the form of an award-winning Canteen and access to a beautiful, Soil Association-certified organic garden, the company’s Blagdon HQ also offers a lively events calendar throughout the year, including educational trips, art days, garden masterclasses and a ‘Farm to Fridge’ day, with all food produced and cooked on site. As a brand, Yeo Valley is synonymous with the quality of its products and its ethical approach to animal husbandry, with the farm’s famous herd digitally-monitored, given only the best organic feed and mattresses to sleep on. The Mead family, who run both the farms and the Yeo Valley enterprise, speak regularly about an approach to business and farming that’s good for animals, people and nature, drawing on the wisdom and experience of family head, Mary Mead OBE.

Rajaswa Bhawan in New Delhi, India by VYOM

Thursday, May 16th, 2019

Article source: VYOM

As India’s financial headquarters, the Rajaswa Bhawan, or the National Tax Headquarters proposed at Kasturba Gandhi Marg in the heart of the capital New Delhi, represents the morals affiliated with the country’s economic aspirations.

With its history dating back to more than a thousand years, Delhi has been witnessing a continuous change in its architectural identity, owing to the shift in the central administrative power. The amalgamation of the two predominant styles seen across the city, forms the basis for Indo Saracenic architecture. Used extensively by the British, this revival style defines public and government buildings, including palaces of the princely states built during the nineteenth century. With the site located in the vicinity of buildings such as Rasthrapati Bhawan, Hyderabad House and the Jaipur column, the design of the Rajaswa Bhawan has been directly influenced by Indo-Saracenic architecture.

Obros Coffee in Fukushima, Japan by Life style koubou

Sunday, May 5th, 2019

Article source: Life style koubou

We took on a restoration project for a coffee shop run by two brothers.

The building we were requested to renovate was a rental building which had traditionally been used as a base by a post office etc. for commercial purposes. The building was planned to be dismantled after more than 50 years of serving. In order to make it usable as a shop, reinforcement of pillars including the ones on the tilted second floor was essential. While the pillar reinforcement required the outer wall to be dismantled and repaired, it would put great pressure on the limited budget. Instead, we decided to make use of the big space which was too much for the brothers in the first place and build a new store space without fixing the outer wall. We drew inspiration from an episode that coffee production is agriculture and installed sheets of glass on a wooden frame to build a box-like structure resembling a greenhouse.

% ARABICA Kuwait Abu Al Hasaniya by nendo inc.

Sunday, April 28th, 2019

Article source: nendo inc.

Interior design for Arabica located in the eastern coast of Kuwait, a new branch for the original coffee shop from Higashiyama, Kyoto.

With crisp white as the base colour of the space, the interior elements are accentuated with materials such as brass and concrete to fit the design theme of the Arabica brand and to symbolize the qualities of their high-end products. White coffee machines almost disappear to the background in order to highlight the coffee beans presented in linen bags behind a glass case and the “beans map” element hanged next to it.
