Sekeping Kong Heng, in the charming old town of Ipoh, is the latest addition to the Sekeping family of retreats. It is located in a 3 storey neo-classical building which also houses a famous coffee shop of the same name on the ground floor that serves great coffee and the best local dishes in town. All effort has been made to preserve as much of the character of the existing building as possible in contrast to the surrounding new architectural interventions. In addition, an extension has been added at the back, tucked away to reveal an inner courtyard with a dramatic stairway to take guests up to their rooms.
This project is a unit-based intervention for tenants re-occupying existing buildings. The market for this intervention is mainly young customers visiting a new cafeteria. Certain spatial flexibility was required for other activities such as live concerts and shows. The design of the space had to be adjustable and controllable in order to fit in several project sites and within different existing building conditions. The main focus of the project is to invent the system comprised of basic units forming the whole cafeteria, which could be further developed as several design options by transforming its shape and adjusting to its surroundings.
The location of Heverlee Delek creates an oasis in which the traveller/commuter can relax within a contemporary environment to refuel, shop and eat before continuing their journey. Starting from the E40; a strong infrastructure vein, fast traffic is refined and reduced until finally distilled into quieter parking spaces and picnic areas. These areas visually meander and flow into the surrounding landscape and beyond. Central to the idea of the plan is a pedestrian axis. This directs traffic to specific areas, solely dedicated for the purpose of rest and relaxation. This ‘walking-axis’ offers the possibility for users to experience the surroundings and to pleasantly reach the service station in safety.
The new school canteen of the Salmtal Secondary School in Germany was designed by SpreierTrenner Architekten (www.spreiertrenner.de) as a multifunctional building with the greatest possible flexibility. The space is used not only by children to eat every day, but also for special events such as music concerts, theatre plays or even Christmas fairs. This is why the main room was set out with a column-free square plan only subdivided by a mobile wall. The adjoining section at the rear contains all supporting facilities, such as a kitchen, storage space, toilets and staff facilities, etc. It has been set out with the option of extending it in the future.

KABC was hired by Balzac Coffee (Balzac Caffé) renamed to redesign the chain after the company merged with World Coffee in 2011. Services included formulating a brand strategy and subsequently a brand experience comprised of graphic services, signage, architectural design, and interior design. The brand strategy is based on the original brand values of the founder of Balzac coffee as well as current coffee shop trends observed in New York City. The second part of KABC’s services was to translate the developed brand into a series of distinct and memorable experiences for guests.
This Balzac Coffee Shop was the first shop realized for the brand. It is located in Main-Taunus Center, a brand new shopping development outside Frankfurt, Germany.

The Balzac Coffee brand and subsequent interior design have been developed from the types of products the stores will sell. Coffee will always be sold, while extra offerings like Panini, frozen yogurt, and specialty shakes will change based on what is popular at that particular time. Similarly, classical furniture which evokes a timeless quality will be built into the store, while whimsical accent pieces juxtapose the minimalist sensibility.

The shop near Frankfurt features the signature Balzac Caffé wooden frame on the outside. Upon entering, shop patrons are greeted with a 9 meter long, wooden counter that defines the narrow linear space.

It is shaped and intended to be more like a bar counter as opposed to the typical service counter, and will act as a social zone for people to enjoy coffee and additional items each Balzac store will offer.
This minimal environment is made cozy through playful and artisanal accent elements that will be changed more often, including the menu boards, graphical styles, and seating upholstery.

A new canteen for the Technical College, Teacher Training College and the State Academy for Fine Art has been completed north of the Moltkestrasse. This new address will form an attractive new centre for the campus where the disciplines can meet, eat and exchange ideas.
We built up the interior as natural continuation of the architecture. By functional design we separated the area into two zones: the front zone was incorporated into the exterior creating public space and feeling of console silhouette of the building; the rear zone was separated through floor and roof design that allowed reducing depth of space while keeping the panorama.
Tully’s Coffee remm Kagoshima is located on the first floor of the high-grade hotel built in the typical shopping quarter “Tenmonkan” in Kagoshima. Thus, Tully’s was required to upgrade the facilities from the comparable Tully’s shops and correspond to providing breakfasts to the hotel guests.
This café serving espresso, wine and pastries is a compliment to and a comment on Wright’s design. Our intent is to make this an intervention in the space, within Wright’s language and his philosophy by shaping and transforming the iconic forms of the building. The threaded logic of these monolithic Corian planes and volumes moving through the space, allow the visitor to both create and experience the space’s kinetic energy simultaneously. These curves link our design not only with the museum’s architecture, but with its art as well. Kandinsky’s swooping lines and Stella’s restraint reverberate here. The café is simple, but says a lot; not tense minimalism, but calm purity. Like the museum, even when filled with a blur of moving bodies, it remains still.

A Cafeteria in a University Campus located near Auditorium, Cultural Center, Mass communication, was expected to become hub of all social activities of the Campus. Due to the extreme climatic conditions of New Delhi, where the summer sees temperatures of above 45 degrees centigrade, and the winters often see temperatures below 5 degree centigrade.
