Museum of Life and Science in Durham, North Carolina by in situ studio

Wednesday, May 16th, 2018

Article source: in situ studio

The woodland classroom building is located in a forest on the south side of the Museum’s campus. The building is a flexible space for science learning that blends indoor space with the surrounding natural environment. The stand-alone restroom building is located on the north side of the Museum’s campus, within a new outdoor exhibition area called Hideaway Woods, just up the trail from a Patrick Dougherty sculpture. We worked with the Museum of Life and Science to master plan these portions of their expanding campus and locate these small structures to minimize disturbance to the surrounding environs and, in the case of the woodland classroom, maximize connections with the natural environment.

Media Library and University Residence in Aix-en-Provence, France by ANMA

Thursday, March 22nd, 2018

Article source: ANMA

This operation, which forms part of the Mirabeau Campus Plan, describes three complementary university programs – a media library, a restaurant, and a residence- that must be linked, but each has their own identity and operational autonomy. This multiple programming plays, simultaneously, with the imbrication and the distinction with regard to the existing building and its specific image.

Vol Walker Hall & the Steven L. Anderson Design Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas by MARLON BLACKWELL ARCHITECTS

Monday, March 12th, 2018

Article source: MARLON BLACKWELL ARCHITECTS

The Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design at the University of Arkansas is a striking hybrid of a beautifully restored and renovated historical building, Vol Walker Hall (65,000 SF), and a contemporary insertion and addition, the Steven L. Anderson Design Center (37,000 SF). The coupling of old and new invigorates the historical center of the campus and revitalizes the educational environment of Vol Walker Hall, the campus’s original library and home to the School of Architecture since 1968. The expanded facility unites all three departments – architecture, landscape architecture, and interior design – under one roof for the first time, reinforcing the School’s identity and creating a cross-disciplinary, collaborative learning environment.

Some phase 1 photographs, as a reminder

The Hellin-Sebbag office began work in 2004 on the Saint-Charles Hospital site at Montpellier.
Delivered in 2011, the first phase converted the general hospital into university buildings for graduates and researchers in the Faculty of Humanities, Paul Valéry University.

Patience and perseverance were necessary to restore new life to a site at this scale.
