Maersk Tower in Copenhagen, Denmark by C.F. Møller Architects

Wednesday, February 28th, 2018

Article source: C.F. Møller Architects

The Maersk Tower is a state-of-the-art research building whose innovative architecture creates the optimum framework for world-class health research, making it a landmark in Copenhagen. It aims to contribute positively by linking the University of Copenhagen with the surrounding neighbourhoods and wider city.

The Tower is an extension of Panum, the University of Copenhagen’s Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, and contains both research and teaching facilities, as well as a conference centre with auditoriums and meeting rooms, connected to the latest technology. With its easily identifiable and dynamically curved shape, the 15 storey research tower stands as a sculptural linchpin for the University’s Faculty of Health Sciences, whilst equally forming a visible link between the city and the North Campus.

Ensae Paristech Campus Paris-Saclay in France by CAB ARCHITECTES (CALORI AZIMI BOTINEAU)

Tuesday, February 27th, 2018

Article source: CAB ARCHITECTES (CALORI AZIMI BOTINEAU)

When we discovered the immense sky and the plateau devoid of physical constraints we sought to capture the landscape by a simple form and by an abstract architectural language.

The proximity of the site to the edge of the woodland led us intuitively to the primary material as it seemed necessary in this country-side site to place the building lightly on the ground. To achieve this we chose to define the project by a steel exoskeleton.

Thursday, January 18th, 2018

Article source: KAAN Architecten

KAAN Architecten has won the competition launched by R&S Realty II, to design the facades of three new office buildings for iCampus www.icampus-muenchen.de in the Werksviertel district of Munich. Works will start in 2020 and be completed by the end of 2022.

Located in a former industrial and commercial area behind the Ostbahnhof train station, the new development strives to blend existing industrial and office buildings with a new contemporary layer, dedicated to the creative industry. The Alpha, Beta, Gamma buildings, whose structure and floorplans have been designed by RKW Architektur +, will not merely rely on standard and strict German office rules to define their architecture, but will also express transparency and encompass lofty spaces that clearly represent the creative industry of the 21st century. The facade design by KAAN Architecten will underline and support the identity of the buildings to consolidate and unite the Werksviertel aesthetic, while at the same time being iconic within its own right.

School Campus De Vonk – De Pluim in Knokke-Heist, Belgium by NL Architects

Thursday, November 16th, 2017

Article source: NL Architects

Passiefschool

To accommodate the merger of two primary schools the city of Knokke-Heist has developed an ambitious project: a so-called Passiefschool. The building has to comply with the highest environmental standards which should lead to a maximal consumption of 15 kWh per square meter for heating and cooling. A number of measures have been taken, some technical and some architectonic, to reach this goal. So besides triple glass, heavy duty insulation and the ‘Canadian Well’ for instance, the building features a ‘Volcano’ for night ventilation and a multifunctional porch to block the direct rays of the sun.
