Woven Stories: An energy-saving artwork for a Canadian college campus in Ontario, Canada by PLANT Architect Inc.

Thursday, August 4th, 2016

Article source: PLANT Architect Inc.

The Woven Stories project addresses two existing conditions: a long-standing desire on Sheridan College’s part to have a mural on the highly visible west edge of its Davis Campus, and heat gain/glare issues in the fully glazed lounge space of the Rob Turner Building, which houses the college’s Faculty of Applied Health and Community Studies. The project comprises a two-layer installation of white vinyl (heat control) and printed perforated window blinds (glare control).

Sunday, July 10th, 2016

Article source: Fokkema & Partners Architecten

ROC Mondriaan in The Hague officially opened the schools that were renovated by Fokkema & Partners to become a new Hospitality Campus. At the opening, the Mayor of The Hague Van Aartsen stated: ‘This new campus is an asset to the city and for education in the region’. Today more than ever, the school can cooperate with the city and local business opening its facilities for events and meetings. The design by Fokkema & Partners provides the students with a fully equipped and bright learning environment as well as with a vibrant heart where they can practice their skills. Organized around a grand café in the central atrium there are several restaurant “pockets”. These pockets with different hospitality concepts each have their unique style and offer splendid views of the student activity in the preparation kitchens. A new canopy over the entrance accentuates the view into the grand café depot.

Article source: Linazasoro&Sánchez Arquitectura

The Campus of Segovia is placed on a large plot in the suburbs of this historical city. It is a site defined by the lack of public spaces. This project intends to create an important cultural pole. Therefore, it stands surrounding a big covered square which will be used not only by students and teachers, but also by the neighbours of the area.

Jazz Campus in Basel, Switzerland by BUOL & ZÜND

Saturday, June 4th, 2016

Article source: BUOL & ZÜND

The idea was to plan a building which is dedicated to jazz. It was a challenge to bring the two disciplines together as jazzmusic works with improvisation and serendipity while architecture seaks to avoid random and tries to plan and fix things to make them persist. The second question was how to integrate a new building into the grown city structure of the old town in Basel. During our research we realized that the plan of the buildings on the site hasn’t changed much during centuries although the buildings themselves were exchanged several times. So we decided to believe in the “architecture-trouvée” and create the building’s volume on the base of the old citymap. The result is a diverse volume with a courtyard in the center.

Russas Advanced Campus in Ceará, Brasil by Rede Arquitetos

Thursday, May 12th, 2016

Article source: Rede Arquitetos

The Russas Advanced Campus of the Federal University of Ceará is part of a larger plan to take public University to the interior of Brazil, democratizing opportunities. The first stage consists of three structural units: the portico access, the connecting walkway and the administrative and teaching building. The design was thought to facilitate future expansions and design each unit according to their specific function, also seeking to give unity to the group, either through building elements and materials used, or through the appreciation of the free shaded areas without a defined use, also present throughout the buildings. The understanding that the exchange of knowledge occurs also in these meeting spaces has motivated the creation of it.
