Thomas P. Murphy Studio Building at University of Miami School of Architecture in Florida by Arquitectonica

Sunday, January 13th, 2019

Article source: Arquitectonica

Extending Arquitectonica’s longtime association with the University of Miami School of Architecture (Bernardo Fort-Brescia, Laurinda Spear and their son Raymond Fort have all served on the school’s faculty), the Thomas P. Murphy Design Studio Building cements the firm’s commitment to the University and its hometown through the design of a one-of-a-kind laboratory and collaborative space for the next generation of architects. The new 20,000-square-foot LEED-certified studio building provides a space that supports and furthers the school’s educational pedagogy. The exposed structure of glass and concrete serves as a teaching tool by illustrating some of the basic tenets of modern architecture, construction and sustainability.

Eco-Tubes in Ramat Gan, Israel by GEOTECTURA

Monday, January 7th, 2019

Article source: GEOTECTURA

The Azriel Faculty of Design’s Workshops building (ECO-TUBES) contains several workshops (wood, metal, foam, paint and more), classrooms, offices and galleries, as well as the Gottesman Department of Jewelry Design. The building is part of the planned renovation of Shenkar’s campus by Geotectura.

Background –

Over the years, there have been several master plans and competitions that attempted to do this. Most of them called for demolishing the existing campus. However, the winning proposal was chosen, in part, because it offers a moderate solution based on stages and the ability to build upon what already exists; the plan fits the partial budget currently available and does not require an interruption of studies at the college.

Hox Haus in Englefield Green, England by 74

Wednesday, November 28th, 2018

Article source: 74

Manchester-based architecture and interior design practice 74 has completed a major project to extend and remodel a Grade II-listed, two-storey, Victorian brick building in a semi-rural location in Englefield Green, just outside Egham. The repurposed 453 sq m building – Hox Haus – will serve as the central focus, clubhouse and social amenity for Hox Park student campus, newly-created by developers Moorfield Group for students attending Royal Holloway, University of London.

The new campus is located within a larger, 67-acre mixed-use site, owned by Royalton Group. Its Surrey location, near Runnymede, where Magna Carta was once signed, lent the site its name: Magna Carta Park. The Hox Park campus is one aspect of an overall masterplan for the site that also includes affordable and luxury housing, as well as an Audley Senior Living village.

Learning Center at Campus of Health Sciences of UGR University in Granada, Spain by Cruz y Ortiz Arquitectos

Friday, November 23rd, 2018

Article source: Cruz y Ortiz Arquitectos

Flowing with the natural inclination of the terrain, general movement on the campus finds access to the array of services that are offered in the General Services Building. There can be found the Auditorium, Library and Nursery, as well as restaurants and exhibition rooms.

The expressive will that appears in the ways connecting the main courses on the campus with the General Services Building generates a facility that has a singular, organic shape in consonance with its uses. Such uses -library, museum, cafeteria, and so on- open to free open spaces that are at a lower level than the general height of the site and are delimited by elm plantations.

Technical Faculty Campus Odense Universitet in Denmark by C.F. Møller

Friday, November 9th, 2018

Article source: C.F. Møller

The Technical Faculty is part of the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) in Odense, and constitutes a shared research and education environment for four different institutes. The building is designed as one big envelope consisting of 5 buildings connected by bridges at multiple levels crossing the heart of the complex, a “piece of furniture” containing common functions, meeting-rooms and café/lounge areas. The many connections allow for more fluid boundaries, and more community and knowledge sharing.

Article source: BIG-BJARKE INGELS GROUP

The new East Austin District is an entirely new sports and entertainment neighborhood tailored to celebrate world-class sports and cultural experiences under one checkered roofscape. Located at the site of Rodeo Austin, the 1.3 million sf East Austin District is a world of worlds for sports fans, music festival-goers and adventurists, capturing the distinct spirit of Austin with the city’s first pro-sports stadium and large-scale music arena. Inspired by local vernaculars including the Jefferson Grid, the individual buildings in East Austin District are arranged as a checkerboard of different functions, appearing as a latticed roofscape from above. Offering more than protection, the rooftop covered in red photovoltaic panels could someday allow the self-sufficient district to share its energy resources community-wide—powering East Austin’s electricity and economy.

Wednesday, October 31st, 2018

Article source: Design Engine

The AUB Design Workshops & Studios Conversions consist of the transformation of two former on-campus halls of residence, originally constructed in 2001, into modern studio and teaching space for Arts University Bournemouth’s internationally renowned higher education courses.

The success of the institution, and the wider changing demands of higher education, instigated a reappraisal of the Halls’ use as part of Design Engine’s 2009 vision for the future masterplan for the University.
