Article source: Gonçalo Byrne Arquitectos + Oficina Ideias em linha

OBJECT

The Interpretation Center was plotted in the dense urban fabric of a medieval fortified village, in an area once referred as the Jewish quarter of Trancoso.

Starting from a ruined allotment, the aim was to re-erect a building that reinforces the corner geometry, still displaying an acute angle on the intersection of two narrow streets, and establishing a symbolic gesture in the context of Jewish urban culture.

Instituut Verbeeten in Breda, Netherlands by Wiegerinck

Friday, February 14th, 2014

Article source: Wiegerinck

A radiotherapy satellite location was developed for Instituut Verbeeten next to the Amphia Hospital in Breda. The new building and its two radiation bunkers cuts traveling time for patients living on the fringes of the catchment area. A healing environment is the main design principle. Patients experience daylight at every step of their treatment. The shell around the building creates various patios in the waiting and treatment rooms. It forms a filter between the outside world and the building, creating a feeling of openness and privacy.

Tuesday, February 11th, 2014

Article source: diederendirrix architects

diederendirrix architects made the winning design for Landgraaf’s new Knowledge, Information and Advice Centre (KIA). Construction starts early 2015.

The municipality of Landgraaf (the Netherlands) has been working for quite some time on a multi-purpose centre, which will bring together a range of services and organisations under one roof. The existing city hall will be extended with a pavilion, a transparent space in contact with and with views of its surroundings on all sides. The heart of the new KIA coincides with the existing city hall’s central space. The new heart has its main entrance on the Raadhuisplein (city hall square) but will also have a prominent entrance at the rear of the city hall together with a green passage leading to Lichtenberg City Park.
