Bo Bartlett Center in Columbus, Georgia by Olson Kundig

Sunday, February 3rd, 2019

Article source: Olson Kundig

“My design agenda for the Bo Bartlett Center was how to make the architecture support Bo’s artwork and legacy. This may seem strange coming from an architect, but my hope is that the architecture disappears and Bo’s work is what lights the place up.” –Tom Kundig, FAIA, RIBA, Design Principal.

A former cotton warehouse on the banks of the Chattahoochee River, the Bo Bartlett Center is a multidisciplinary gallery, archive and educational space on the RiverPark campus of Columbus State University (CSU). For this adaptive reuse project, Design Principal Tom Kundig, FAIA, RIBA, of Seattle-based Olson Kundig maximized the building’s interior volume with its expansive 23-foot-high ceilings to match the monumental qualities of artist Bo Bartlett’s work.

Maebong Daycare Center in Seoul, South Korea by DANIEL VALLE ARCHITECTS

Friday, December 14th, 2018

Article source: DANIEL VALLE ARCHITECTS

Children have a different scale perception than adults. At a young age, everything looks larger in size than when we see it as adults. The project focuses on the idea of scaling down the perception of the building so that the future young users can relate more to it. To achieve this goal the massing of the building is divided into five smaller volumes. Each of them has a distinctive color, geometry and finishing material to emphasize the smaller ones among the overall mass.

University Center Maria Antonia in São Paulo, Brazil by Una Arquitetos

Thursday, December 6th, 2018

Article source: Una Arquitetos

Maria Antonia Street is a historical reference for the University of São Paulo and a mark in the cultural and political life of the city. As the address of the Mackenzie College since the end of the 19th century, the Maria Antonia Street became a catalyser of academic and social discussions after the establishment of the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters at the Rui Barbosa Building, on 1949.

After a violent invasion of the building, by a group of right wing students, escorted by the police in 1968, the Faculty of Philosophy was transferred to the campus of the University (Cidade Universitária).

Chongqing is at the upper and middle reaches of the Yangtze River, which connects to the maritime Silk Road.

It is the only municipal city in the mid west region, and also the national central city, connecting the Yangtze River economic belt and the “Silk Road” economic belt.

Bioprocess Innovation Center in Morrisville, North Carolina by Clark Nexsen architects

Tuesday, November 13th, 2018

Article source: Clark Nexsen architects

Located in a dense hilly forest on a narrow peninsula of land, the Bioprocess Innovation Center responds to the rich topography as it weaves together building and landscape. The existing landforms are preserved and reinforced through terraced parking with a public path that steps down the hillside. The design organizes along the path and is comprised of a series of sliding tubes that float above the forest floor as they frame views into the landscape and connect the occupants with nature. The design fosters collaboration as the path transitions into a collaborative walkway inside with multiple types of gathering spaces.

Talleres Baix Camp in Reus, Spain by NAM ARQ

Monday, October 1st, 2018

Article source: NAM ARQ

This old house in the centre of Reus was acquired by the association with the will to create one of these day centres. Firstly, it was proposed to reform it and create a small extension with a new concrete volume on the ground floor, placed in front of a garden/patio and facing the northern part of the lot. It becomes the centre of the group activities. This gesture also requires a new access to the complex and helps organizing the rest of the classrooms, kitchen, offices and toilets placed in the old building. Constructively, the materials (concrete and wooden panels in windows and furniture) seek to create a certain warmth, while the long-glazed panels allow a correct visualization and control of the interior/exterior spaces. The white colour encourages in these people the creativity and tranquillity they need in their day to day and in allows a better lighting of the workspaces. To homogenize the whole project, the old building was painted in grey tones and new exterior joinery and protection slats in pine wood were also placed.
