Western Hills in the western part of Beijing where the Old Summer Palace is located—is far from the hustle and bustle of the city. This project’s design is a combination of cultural elements of Western Hills and modern oriental design techniques. A shaded corridor leads to a space possessing a fantastic view. The moment people enter the space, they feel as if they have walked into a beautiful painting that features both ancient elegance and modern freedom. “Let me forget my worldly worries and find peace in the woods of the Western Hills; the white clouds seem to have read my mind, and drift slowly down from the forest to keep me company.”
BNIM led the initial Campus Master Plan and Conceptual Design process, which was complet-ed in April 2012, for the Pacific Center Campus Development. In August of that year, BNIM was again selected to lead the design of a two-building campus expansion. The two buildings add 410,000 square feet of office, dry laboratory, catering/café, health center, fitness center, lecture hall, multi-purpose learning and conference space to the campus. Both buildings have received LEED gold certification.
The assignment called for a public building that transcends its function as a parking garage and whose representation fits its strategic position in the classically designed centre of Leidsche Rijn. We propose an understated icon that interprets the classic urban principles in a contemporary way and integrates new public uses in order to shape the civic space of the new centre.
When it comes to an exclusive space of hair styling, the first word come to people’s mind is “fashion”. Today we define fashion from many different aspects. In some sense, the essence of fashion is not following the trend, but emphasizing your individuality. Do not follow the trends, being different and impressive is the best interpretation for fashion. In the design of Savour Dalang Store, what the designer strives to achieve is: to impress the customers and make them repeat customers.
This mixed-use project has as integration axis the following areas: commercial, residential, health services and a hotel. We decided to make the 3 levels out of plumb and complement it with an important area of public space, an outdoor park surrounded by terraces and restaurants with different specialties.
Based on a quest for a powerful identity and an effort to weave important links with the city, this new development stage of the Zac Paris Rive Gauche is designed to complete an urban repurposing initiated almost 20 years ago.
Building next to an urban void always poses exceptional challenges. The lot on the city block A11, free of adjacent buildings, faces urban arteries which also structure it, while also offering views of the railyard landscape, a river of rails and catenaries bestowing an obvious urban poetry upon the site, in which different strata of the city intermingle.
Directly in the middle of Berlin the Residential District “The Garden” with owner-occupied as well as rented flats was completed in August 2016. Right across from the new headquarter of the German Secret Service a complex of buildings with 5 to 7 above-ground levels was built. 161 exquisite rented flats, 115 owner-occupied flats, 7 commercial units and 88 underground parking spaces find a place there now.
A historically significant stadium due to its distinctive design, with the oval stands positioned close to the pitch so audience and players are in intimate proximity, De Kuip is known for its unique and intense atmosphere. Built 80 years ago, the current stadium of Rotterdam-based football club Feyenoord no longer fulfills modern demands. To facilitate the football club’s expanding ambitions both in the national and European football leagues, multiple plans for a new and renovated stadium have been made and presented over the past decade, none of which received final approval. In 2016, Operatie NL, OMA and Feyenoord proposed a different approach: the construction of a new stadium combined with the development of the surrounding neighborhood.

An iconic urban landmark, but also a sustainable structure for an evolving shopping experience: the new CENTRO*Arezzo Coop.fi frees itself from the conceptual dictates of the traditional shopping mall and acts as a social and recreation pole that is perfectly integrated with the city. Opened in 1988, the complex has undergone a significant aesthetic and functional redevelopment that has completely changed its identity and its relationship with the surrounding environment.
What shape of life can an architect suggest to people in a new town in which apartment complexes will be built? The location is the community living area in Gimpo Newtown. The building will be used for a neighbor hospital and other businesses, and we had an expectation that this building would be an open-space in such dense region.
