S P Setia, considered as one of the largest developers in Malaysia. their new large venture “Setia Alam” is located in the “Shah Alam” area, south west of Kuala Lumpur. In this approximately five thousand acres of new city, S P Setia decided to build their own headquarters on a four-acre of land. This developed the idea for a very formal design approach to emphasize on the social commitment of S P Setia to contribute in the national development of Malaysia through their edifice in this new city. Further to that, the Setia headquarters have been designed as a green building and achieved first ever private commercial building in Malaysia green buildings “platinum” certification.

KPOP Curve in Gyeonggi-do, Korea by Moon Hoon

Sunday, June 15th, 2014

Article source: Moon Hoon

Baekhyeon-dong is divided in almost equal parts by its main café street. The buildings in the surrounding areas are similarly subdivided by their function; the lower and ground levels are commercial, and the first and second levels are typically residential. Amidst this sea of homogeneity, these structures engage in a quiet struggle for distinction, through the variation of form and materials, Of these, the building at street address number 582 is a music agency owned by an IT company. Sitting at a fortuitous corner, it serves as a rare contrast to the numerous other constructions in Baekhyeon-dong that fail to make the most of their locations.

BOULEVARD LAS BRUJAS – COMMERCIAL BUILDING in Santiago, Chile by MAS FERNANDEZ ARQUITECTOS

Saturday, June 7th, 2014

Article source: MAS FERNANDEZ ARQUITECTOS

“Boulevard Las Brujas” building is the synthesis of the accumulated experience in Retail buildings by the office during the last 10 years, such as shopping centers Pio XI , Luis Carrera, San Felix, Av Peru and others.

The large covering that wraps the volumes that contain shops, helps to give the building a strong appearance, leaving the billboards captivated by architecture.

The corporative images of todays main market brands are far away from what one would like as an architect (far away from the reality), with which we have to work on our commercial architecture.

20th St. Offices in Santa Monica, CA by Belzberg Architects

Thursday, May 22nd, 2014

Article source: Belzberg Architects

Abstract

The 20th Street Offices serve as creative working studios for three design firms in Santa Monica, California.  Located on a 7,500 square foot lot in one of the United States top ‘green’ cities, they consist of approximately 6,800 sf of studio space at two stories with a mezzanine. Santa Monica earned this ranking with its extensive Green Building Program and public policies.  However, the prominence of sustainable initiatives in Santa Monica doesn’t end with policy; an extensive network of environmentally conscious citizens and business owners, of which the architects of the 20th Street Offices are a member, propels it forward.  It is the firm’s desire, along side of its latest trajectories in architectural design and theory, to responsibly lead its fellow citizens, colleagues, and clients in green building initiatives and made no exception when designing their own offices as they pursued a LEED-NC Gold rating.

LAS ARENAS in Barcelona, Spain by Alonso Balaguer and Associated Architects

Wednesday, May 14th, 2014

Article source:  Alonso Balaguer and Associated Architects

In spite of the fact that the former bullring, in disuse since 1989 and with a neo-mudéjar style, didn’t actually have high architectural value, it was clear that, being poised in such an impressive location for more than a century, this site was really in the minds of every citizen, and its symbolic value lead to a suitable preservation. That’s why the architectural answer, already from the first outlines, was orientated towards its maintenance as a second skin of the new building. Nevertheless, such preservation met great technical complexity: first, an evident physical deterioration; second, a strange height, four meters above the nearby streets. The technical effort was worth it, in the end to present a strong, atypical cylindrical form.
